Are there already lines in an auto transmission to allow for easy upgrade to a transmission cooler? If not, how difficult is this type of upgrade. Ditto for the oil cooler.

Group deal on tranny/motor oil coolers?

These are pretty easy installs. I'm using the Hayden 405 tranny cooler and it took about 1/2 hour to install. There's a stock tranny cooler in the radiator and the lines leading to it are very easy to access. I'm also getting the Hayden 1040 engine oil cooler, should arrive today. This also looks like a very easy install. It's hundred$ less than the Stillen cooler and looks like a better performing cooler, plus the dimensions of it will make it a very easy fit along with the tranny coller already installed.

I'm thinking about starting a group deal for either or both of these since I have a great source that can provide great pricing - anyone interested?

I'd be interested in both. Can you beat Mobiltek's price on the tranny cooler? http://www.mobiletek.net/hayden.html

Me too

I'm interested in the oil cooler. I think they make combo coolers...a cooler for both the tranny and oil in one.

Count me in

for the oil cooler. Can't hurt! Since it has an adaptor, can it be easily removed for winter months?

If the radiator already has a tranny cooler, what if any are the benefits of an additional, separate one?

Group Deal

It looks like we've got six people interested so far. I'm going to speak with my source either today or tomorrow and see what I can work out, but I'll need a lot more folks interested to swing this - anyone else????

Kev - can you move this post to the Group Deals forum?

K Wong - they do make combo coolers, I'll see what I can do.

Colonel - It's got a thermostat, so you won't need to remove the cooler for the winter.

srbarnes4ever - the stock cooler sits within the radiator - within the radiator - it'll keep the tranny fluid marginally cool for everyday driving. But most of us have a more "spirited" driving style which puts additional stress on the tranny and results in hotter fluid. This leads to diminished tranny performance and longevity (ever notice how you car runs AND shifts when you start if up early in the morning and everything has cooled down overnight?). The Hayden tranny cooler runs in series witht the stock cooler. In my opinion and personal experience the tranny does shift better and crisper the cooler it is. Pretty much the same thing holds for the motor oil cooler, the Max doesn't even have a stock motor oil cooler so just about any cooler will be way better than no cooler at all.

Here's a past thread about engine oil coolers:

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....5&pagenumber=1

Also check out the last paragraph on this page:

http://www.haydenauto.com/aboutus.html

I'm thinking of having my Max dyno'd before and after the motor oil cooler install. I'm also changing over to Mobil 1 10W-30 synthetic at the same time (I'm at about 7K miles) - I'll post the results if I do dyno.

Start a new thread in the Group Deal Forum because this will get lost in the mix. After starting one, post the link in this thread.

Oil Cooler install pics/ Group Deal info

Just talked with my source and he should have pricing available within the next couple of days. I just now installed the cooler, although I haven't hooked it up to the sandwich adaptor (which goes between the oil filter and block) yet because I'm waiting on one missing part from Hayden. By the way, I'm sure this was just a fluke and certainly don't expect this to be a problem, and Hayden customer servcie was extremely helpful and responsive when I called them about this. They really were a pleasure to deal with. It also sounds like they're sending me much more than just the part I'm missing - just to be sure I guess!

If anyone else is interested let me know. I think pricing will be VERY, very, reasonable especially when compared to the price of the oil cooler from our friends in Costa Mesa, CA (you know the company started by a certain racecar driver..) - I should have at least two or three Hayden tranny and oil cooler models/sizes available (although I think for the Max the 405 tranny cooler and 1040 motor oil cooler are the best choices).

It was a very easy install and there's plenty of room for a tranny cooler and maybe even an intercooler for those with SC's as well. Here are some pic's - I'll have better quality pics and more on what I notice on how the car runs in a couple of days as well.

By the way - here's the link to my post about this in the Group Deals forum: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....threadid=55780

Cooler installed - view from front (you can also see my tranny cooler at the top):

view looking up cooler installed (the splash guard is removed). There just happen to be two threaded and unused holes on the front part of the chassis that are perfectly positioned to secure the cooler to, and the perfect size for the screws provided with the cooler! Plus the cooler ends up in an almost perfect position to receive maximum airflow! This really made the cooler install a snap.

Yup, but it looks like it'll be behind the IC. I'm still interested though.

Isn't the 405 overly big? If you read through the product catalog the 405 is for a class A motorhome, the 404 or 403 would do the same and probably fit much easier.

Greg Prete did the install with a 404:

Can you only get the deal on the 405?
