JWT ECU - beter fuel economy

what is up guys

well i put my jwt ecu in, and i experienced something that has never happened before on any of my mods i have installed. my gas mileage has actually gone up!! thats the weirdest thing, last tank before the ecu i would barely get 400KM to a tank, sometimes 380km, i drove the car pretty hard. well since i put it on, its been hot so the A/C is on almost all the time, and i have been driving it wayyy harder. like every time i turn a corner i punch it in first lol..

well this tank i got 481km, thats with the A/C on almost all the time, and driving it ALOT harder then before. its really weird, every other mod ive done has knocked my gas mileage down lol, the intake was the biggest one it seemed.

anyhow for you americans before id barely get about 248 miles usually 236miles to a tank. and a full tank for me is about 13 gallons(about 57L), now for the past 2 tanks i have gotten almost 300 miles to a tank. im sure if i drove it easier i could get 350 to a tank lol..

Im pretty impressed with it though, im not sure if anyone else has had this happen? it really surprised me i thoght my gas mileage would go WAYYY down.

well thats pretty bad mileage u had there, its getting back up but still not where it should be

i have no mods so i dont know which ones affect MPG the most, but on my stock car when i bought it she got around 400 KM on a tank, now after i completed ALL maintenance and fixed some things up i get around 600 KM to a tank depending on how i drive

so maybe if u slowed down a bit you could shoot ur mileage up as well

Better gas mileage because the A/F is leaner in the open-loop maps. If you you drove normally there would be no change.

yeah thats what i figured. before i installed it i noticed the car use to"burble' a lot especially when i was slowing down to lights, it occasionally did the little backfire too lol..i figure no rear o2 and non functioning evap system might have had something to do with it. Still "burbles" after the ecu but not as much as before.

Anyhow yeah i realize the gas mileage is lower then it shoudl be, then again i drive the car HARD every day. back in the day when i first got my license, i use to drive it really easy because i was afraid of getting a ticket, i use to be able to get 500km to a tank city driving, and on a lot of hwy driving id get about 650km to a tank. since then ive added a handful of mods and added a few leadweight to my right foot.

I'd do some tuning/ maintenance on the car, I get about 416-420 miles to a tank, and usually drive fairly aggressively shifting ~4,000-5,000 RPM's

I noticed the same thing back when I had my JWT. Reasons being because of what nismology pointed out.

How was the power difference with the ECU? That is all I have left (Next to Mevi/00vi) and haven't felt like dishing out that kinda cash, esp since I have been eyeing up the new Yamaha R1 (Raven ed.). I was curious on how big of a difference the ECU made, and if its worth getting. I dont plan on getting Mevi or 00vi though, the Max is and will stay my daily D. I will have the bike to try to break the sound barrier (I am not even gonna lie to you guys and say I wouldn't).

P.S. Visited Vancouver and UBC last July...quite possible the best place I have ever visited...and I have been to 45 of our 50 states + Mexico. Just my extra .02

This has been covered extensively in the past. If you're asking yourself if it's worth it or not, then no, for you it is not worth it.

In order to take full advantage, you need a different IM. Also, at this point in time, we all know there are better alternatives to tuning, and that the JWT is not the best bang for the buck. All other alternatives require more time/effort/desire. If you have an extra $0.6K lying around, as well as an extra ECU than by all means, get it and toss it on while you wait about 12 weeks for Ben and his crew to get yours back to you.

I know its been well covered in the past. I was just curious on his opinions/ what difference HE saw in it. As I said, this is staying my daily, and I was so/ so on getting an ECU. The reason I wanted an ECU is just to 'fine tune' the mods I already have with the car's Ign/ fuel. I looked into the adj. FPR method, but it does nothing w/ timing (as in YOU adj. the timing-not the computer compensating by -/+ in air/fuel ratio) and it is not the correct approach to tune it (and Emanage is way more pricey). I am sure you can understand what I mean. I wasn't about to start yet another thread on ECUs. But I do like to know what people with the same mods as me think of theirs, kinda a 'collective' approach.

Cookie cutter methods should never be confused with the phrase fine tuned.

I know a member or 2 that can prove you wrong.

We all have our ways of 'tuning'. Whichever one fits your situation best is obviously the way to go.
