Alrighty, I took the 2KSE in yesterday for the rotors to be re-surfaced. After reading the forum, it seems to be a common problem. Any hope of maybe getting a recall on these? How many have had this problem, and where are you from. I know that it gets extremely hot here in Dallas, so I curious to see if its a regional issue or a nationwide issue?

First of all, you Never Re-surface Rotors.. Dealers will do it because it's a cheap and easy fix for the time being. Once the rotor has been resurfaced three times, dealers will hook you up w/ new rotors under warranty. But, once a rotor has been resurfaced for the first time, it's due to warp even faster the second time and so on. Nissan Rotors will not warp if they are properly taken care of; not washing the car after driving it through some hard braking, driving through puddles, stuff like that. I have yet to see a defective OEM rotor, especially off the Japan line. Your best bet would be to replace the rotors, OEM or aftermarket, because you'll run into this problem again.

I know Stillen Carries X-drilled rotors for the 00-01 Maximas. But if it was me, I would got w/ the Skyline kit, or the AP kit, well worth it. If you need prices on the X-drilled rotors, you can always e-mail me UlzMax@UltimateZ.com

how much is the Skyline kit? i never heard of it? i was gonna do the 300zx conversion but i gotta get rims that will clear first... the AP kit is too expensive now... how much bigger and lighter is the skyline kit and how much does it cost?

do you know if they will make slotted and cross drilled rotors for the 2000 maxima? lemme know
thanks

They Skyline Kit is about $1000 (Larger Calipers/Cross-drilled Rotors/Metal Master pads).

We're gonna be testing it on my Maxima in about 3 weeks. I was gonna get the AP kit, but it's overkill for a Maxima, and the skylines look better. I know stillen only has Cross-Drilled, I don't know if they're working on a combo (X-drilled/Slotted).

Just a side note.. My rotors warped badly at 11K miles... the dealer cut them and all was well.. for another 11K miles. At 22K they are warped again. I spoke with the dealer who said "You abused your brakes" and refused to cut them or replace them a second time. I called Nissan who said "We believe the dealer and will never give good will brake service".. so basically they will not fix their defective product. I'm a bit ****ed as my Toyota's.. Pontiacs..etc.. have never exhibited this problem due to my "abusive" braking

The interesting point to me was that I overheard the dealer giving the exact same song and dance to another Maxima owner.. complete with the wonderful word "abuse".

If your brakes have problems .. the bottom line is Nissan dealers will most likely not fix them a second time (the first time there is a TSB directly related).. and Nissan Cust Service will always side with the dealer on any problems.
