Icelandic Pearl Owners - Paint Question
Hi, Everyone.
Well, after two attempts by a Nissan recommended body shop to get the paint right on my new rear bumper, the color is still off. After the first attempt, I mentioned to the shop owner that the rear bumper looks really white. Everyone noticed it, even my girlfriend's 11-year-old kid who doesn't even care about cars! So I take the car back to the shop and they try it again. To me, it looks the same, but to him, it looks a shade darker than before. Hmmm. But this time he even forgets to finish the underside of the new rear bumper so it's rough to the touch. Sucks.
Anyway, I know that the bumper is a lighter shade of color than the body, most likely due to the difference in materials used between the two (plastic vs metal). I also know that the front bumper of my car is a bit of a lighter shade of Icelandic Pearl than the rest of the car. But comparing the front and rear bumpers makes me crazy because the rear one is so where you can barely notice the pearl coat.
I want to know from other Icelandic Pearl owners if their bumpers are really white or not. I'm showing my insurance adjuster today the difference in colors as I would like to take my car to a different body shop for a third attempt.
What a pain. I can't believe that particular Nissan dealer would accept work like that for their customers.
Thanks in advance!

I've heard Icelandic Pearl is a PAIN to match, but hopefully another shop will do better. This is why I've held off on adding a body kit, because I doubt anyone around here could match it. I was thinking about painting a two-tone look(Eibach Maxima), where the front/rear bumper, spoiler, and side skirts with partial sides of the body are a silver color to standout more. Doubt I'll ever do it though.

I don't notice a shade difference between the body and bumpers. However, the SPOILER is a different shade then the body. It has almost a dingy brown tint to it in the right lighting.

I have a pearl white also. My bumpers match with the body paint but I see alot of Maximas who don't match. Reason being is that Nissan claims that the paint is electrically bonded to the body. But you can't do that to the bumpers because they are not made out of metal. You have to find someone who specializes in color matching. Good Luck!!!!!
My bumpers match the rest of the car fine. From what I can see, the spoiler on my Max matches perfectly too. But, the bumpers on my '97 Max were definatley a light shade (Arctic White). I have heard that the 4th Gen Maximas had this problem.

I just got the AE body kit in. It comes pre-painted so the color matches perfectly. This way, I won't have to deal with the headaches of color matching.

A guy on this board had his AE body kit replaced, because it didn't match from the factory. However, yours will probably be closer than some paint shop could spray.

Try a Stillen or Ninja body kit. Take a look at Y2KevSE and MrBurner car pics for a sample.

I don't think there is an AE body kit out yet. You can purchase the peices seperately at your Nissan dealer. I've heard that Nissan has trouble getting the sidesills on.
