Noise won't go AWAY!!! woot woot woot woot :(
SO, 2 days ago my car started making this woot woot woot woot woot sound that increases as I speed up. The only time it stops is if I turn the wheel slightly towards the right, if I turn it slightly left the noise is still there but the pitch changes.
Other things to note, doesn't matter how fast I am revving, noise happens in all gears. Happens in neutral and it doesn't matter if the clutch is pressed in or not.
Doesn't stop when I hit the brakes either...
I inspected it with the wheel on and nothing seems out of the ordinary. As far as I can tell the noise is happening from both sides but I have no idea what it could be since the noise does not stop when I hit the brake or the other things above. What baffles me is that the noise stops when I turn the steering wheel to the right
So what should I be looking at...

That's what I was thinking but how could it explain the noise stopping when I turn the wheel SLIGHTLY to the right?

I would have thought bearing too ... but now after reading this thread ... I dunno. You may still check the wheel bearing as well ... may be some play in it.
I had an old Supra that I had to repack the front wheel bearings on at least once a year if not twice. It's a pain, but a job that can easily be done yourself as long as you can jack the car up enough to remove the tire and pull the hub assemb off.
If you find it is your bearing, you can fix the problem for under $5 -- http://www.absolutehome.com/web/cata...D1D389BC52DB41
Dunno if you have ever repacked bearings, but it's easy as eating pie. PM if you need any help ... if you find this is the prob.

Cheers mate!
Kevlo this happen to me after I changed my axles.
It was the axle nut. It wasn't tighten down properly, which made the wheel not stay straight.
So before you change your wheel bearings check the axle nut

I'd suspect wheel bearing / axle nut as well, but is anyone else thinking.... CV joint?? To see if the CV's are bad check the rubber boots for cracking - if they're cracked & all the grease is gone and you need a new CV joint.

Brand new CV joints, Raxle on drivers side and advanced auto on pass side. Boots are fine.
I pulled on the axle so I don't think the nut is loose and I put them on with air tools so they are very tight. But I will try to check this weekend or I will see if I can pop the center cap off and see it.
Lift the car up, put it on jack stands- have someone drive it in the air with the wheels off the ground.
Use a LONG screwdriver or a s***hoscope to listen to where the noise is coming from. Check everything including the tranny.

You probally wont have play if it's a wheel bearing. Fourth gen bearings are sealed. It definitely sounds like a wheel bearing. The reason why you hear more noise when you turn is because of the transfer of load. When you turn right the weight shifts to the left of the car and is more concentrated on the left front wheel. So what happens is the worn bearing is stressed more causing more noise. Think about a cart on rough cement. The more wieght thats on the cart the more noise it makes as it rolls. You have a bad front left wheel bearing. Whats gotta happen is you've got to take the whole hub off and press the bearing out. The bearing is 35 bucks at autozone and it'll be best if you take it to a shop to have them use there press to do the work. Good luck with it bud. It cost me 210 to have mine replaced.

First I will check the axle nut this weekend and go from there(gonna try and see if I can tell it's loose from the wheel center cap first).
I can't test anything else until after finals which will be at the end of next week, 4 tests in 5 days

Lol yeah, I know how to install axles. After all, I just converted the car from auto to manual a few weeks ago...

I will post a thread on it soon with pics and such. It took me 6 hours
Anyways, Axle nuts are nice and tight so that leaves me to test the wheel bearings.

Best post EVAR.

Kev, first thing I thought of was the brakes as well. If all else fails... I'd probably revisit the grinder.
Wheel bearing test is eassyyy, hurry up.

Not the brakes, different from that noise, that noise would stop when I hit the brakes, this has a different tone to it. Wheel bearing test will come on fri, now I have to hit the books

I vote for bearing/hub. Just as posted above, even when the bearing goes bad, i didn't get any excessive play in the wheel. It wasn't until steering felt loose and brake pedal acting up that I took out the axle, inspected the bearing/hub, and found it dead.
You can try driving alongside a wall to amplify the noise.

Just did the tests, noise is louder in the car than outside(might be due to engine noise outside). Pass side hub area is where the noise is from. I did the "up/down----left/right" wheel shake test and it failed. Drivers side is nice and tight but pass side wobbles like no other.
Now I am to buy another NTN(nissan) bearing from rockauto.com, should I replace the oil seals as well?

good price, and smart decision on getting the seals. i just did my left front last week, my right front last year and both times i had to replace the hub as well. the bearing race is pressed onto the hub and when the bearing fails , after a little time the race begins to spin on the hub. expect to be ordering a hub, but you may be lucky.
