EBC Red Stuff vs Hawk HPS Pads

Whats up peeps.

Well after some good talks with Chernmax on the rotorpro's drilled/slotted; I have decided to purchase those (thanks a lot Chern). But after I cop the rotors, the seller suggested to go with the Hawk HPS pads vice the EBC Red Stuff (Yeah I copied all from you Chern!! lololol). I was just trying to see what feedback you guys have on the Hawk HPS. The seller was going to give me full set front and rear for $140.00 and the EBC's were $138 and some change. Anybody have the Hawk HPS pads? Thanks homies!!

I have Hawk HPS pads in my 300zx TT calipers. I dont believe they have ever faded and this is under extreme conditions. They did squeal like a pig for many months until they settled down.

I have HPS on the rear, no fade at all. Much better stopping distance then with OEM or Munroe OE replacements.

Hawk HPS is considered a step up from EBC line of pads. Accepted by most as a competent Aggressive Street/ Moderate Track pad, it should be up to the task!

Thanks for the info. But what material are the Hawk HPS pads? I thought ceramic are the best right now?

They are ceramic, however they have a greater content of ceramic particles then your average pad.

I have the Hawk pads with the same rotors that you are buying and have tested them on my drive from Brooklyn, NY to South Florida. I have no problems to report. I also used them on my old rotors. Hardly any brake dust.

I actually endorse Hawk HPS because of the excellent quality, but me being me, I also like to test other performance brake pads and have been extremely pleased with the EBC's ceramic "Red Stuff" as well as my last set of Hawks...

Thanks Chern!!

Cool Cool then I got some good ones then!! Also, with your drilled/ slotted.... DO you actually notice the difference in stopping power?

Do you recommend a change of my brake fluid when I put mine on?

Brake fluid change is a good idea, especially if you're going to upgrade your other components of the brakes. Brake fluid is a dessicant - it absorbs moisture. Moisture in brake fluid LOWERS boiling temps which causes brake fade. Get the best fluid you can.

Hawk pads are not compitible with all rotors, specially cheppo rotors. You have to have right combination of pads composition and rotor metal, otherwise it will squeal like biach.

Not necessary but always a great idea. As for stopping power NO, most street driven cars with drilled slotted rotors are more for show, if you want to improve your braking, consider 3 things before big brake kits.

Brake pads
Upgraded Brake lines
Sticky tires

Maybe this is a dumb question, but what color are the actual Hawk and EBC pads? With the stock calipers and my wheels, you can see the things sticking out like a sore thumb. Even when I paint the calipers, the pads will be able to be seen...

Actually I paid about $230 shipped because I also wanted the painted centers... Maybe you should PM the person who stated 140 and ask him???

Thanks for the info guys. I went with the EBC red stuff. I painted my calipers black, and I think they came out looking pretty good. Thanks again...

What about EBC's Yellow Stuff? It has a frictional coefficient of .6, while the reds are .5 and so are many other brakes, idk about the HPS' though. The yellow stuff is rated for I think track use along with street use so, good enough for mE!

So far, I have had a little dust from the Hawk HPS compared to those OEM pads. But i think the EBC's would be right about the same if they are both ceramic.

I bought rotors and pads from rotorpros and this is what Rich had to say,

"Well as for EBC RED STUFF pads, we do not recommend them at all. They are ceramic and ceramic pads have proven to be harsh on rotors and cause premature wear and tear. The fact that your rotors will be drilled and slotted, they alone will create less dust. There is no pads out there that has "NO DUST" that is all part of the wearing of pads and rotors. We found the Hawk pads to be great in the dust area."

I had the Hawks and changed to the EBC Red Stuff just to see the difference, other than the fact the EBC's did have less dust, the pads perform about the same however IMO the EBC's seem to get better the longer I have them. After some more mileage, I'll be able to make a better assessment good or bad...

One bonus with the Hawks is they cost less...

The EBC red stuff pads I just bought by far are the best I have ever put on a car. Now, I have never tried Hawk, so I can't compare them to those, but they are quiet, and they stop the car very quickly...
