Just curious if someone has a trick for this bolt, I could not budge it last night...
no way to get leverage... if I have the three inch extension on (which dropped later to G-d knows where, yay!!!) the wrench cant swing because of stuff behind it, and without the extension it cant swing because of the hoses and wires. I know a lot of people have changed their own starter.. any help would be appreciated
I've worked on Subarus and Hondas before this, I have to say, easy access to DIY repairs, Nissan FTL

breaker bar, pb breaker and probably an extension.
last time i did it i think i had the breaker bar in between the wiring for the abs pump and just got it to budge enough so i didn't pulling on the wiring harness, and so i could reposition the bar.

1/2" drive and a jack handle FTMFW. He meant pb blaster, but don't even bother, on a bolt like that it won't help and if anything will do more harm than good if the bolt head is covered in oil.........
^ 1/2" drive refers to the breaker bar basically, i don't think that was a 17mm bolt either. I seem to remember it being smaller when i changed my starter but i could be wrong.
PB Blaster does work, especially if you give it a day or so of dwell time. Grab your 3/8" or 1/2" ratchet, bring it to the hardware store, find a piece of steel pipe that fits well, buy 5 ft. then make a few different lengths of pipe. Now you have some options for the next time you need some... old man strength.
A jack and jack stands are your best bet. I beleive the bolt is easily accessible from underneath. $60 to $100 or so at Sears, it's something you will use for the rest of your life.
