I remember way back when, owning an s-chassis, these brakes were a bargain, with pretty good customer service. Not sure now, maybe someone can enlighten me?

They use the stock 6th gen rotor size, come with everything which is nice. Sure its a bit more, but you get Wilwood quality which would probably kick the **** out of the Z brakes...plus no more sourcing parts from junkyards, etc...

I remember when they used to come w/ 12.2" rotors for our cars. Not a bad deal. But I like th Nissan Logo on Z32 units.

Brian at Fastbrakes still offers them. You just have to call, as the website kinda sucks (for Maximas anyway).

 

O nice I see, I love the Nissan logo as well my friend, but I'll take a better performer with an ugly logo any day

I am currently running the 4piston wilwood calipers on my max with the 2ps rotors. I get nothing but compliments and I would take them over z32 brakes anyday. Well worth the extra money. Z32 brakes weigh a **** load. I have pics on m cardomain page in my sig on page 2.

 

not an alternative to the z32. you can have the z32 for <400 bucks. possibly better brakes tho

 

Time is money, the time it takes to source all the parts needed as well as other advantages makes up for the price difference IMO. By alternative I meant another choice the evermore popular Z brakes...they aren't that great. Like someone in the discussion put it, you never hear TT owners rave about their stock brakes. However, throw them on a car that weighs 500-1000 pounds less and your in business...

Can't beat it at 800 bucks, its a good investment from what i see. Sure, most people will rarely need that kind of stopping power, but headroom is usually not a problem, especially with brakes...

 

Moot point, but the Z32 upgrade isn't all Z32 stock hardware, rotors being the difference.

Since most tires might have a threshold before the brakes are the problem.

How much more than the Wilwood calipers do they(Z32 calipers) weigh?

800 is a GREAT price. Hell I spent almost 600 for all my NEW stuff. But I doubt it can look better than my setup...

 

It's still nice to have a kit that is faaaar less than a Brembo upgrade and available to purchase for those that are not comfortable finding all the parts. Also Matt and Jeff are not always available to make brackets. So if you needed brakes and were going to upgrade, they are not that much more than sourcing a full BBK.

Actually the Wilwood kit I was referring to did, even years ago, have the Wilwood logo.

Front brakes are my next mod, so hopefully early next year I will have the money for it

 

I'm not sure how much z32 brakes weigh. i've picked them up and they were pretty heavy. The wilwood kit I'm running weigh 2lbs per caliper. Picking it up for the first time was a trip cause i was expecting to pick up something much heavier. Match that with my 2pc rotors and I've probably shaved a good 20lbs off each corner.

yeah, the z32 brakes are sexy, but wilwood is ubersexxxy.

 

Not a bad looking setup... but I don't think it fits in most people's budget.

Wow, the stock rotor only weighs 14.5lbs???? When I picked up my old one I would have guessed an easy 18 or 19. So guess I only shaved 10lbs off each corner. Does anyone know how much stock calipers weigh?

 

Stock 4th gen is right around 15lbs. I believe the 6th gen 12.6" rotor is about 21lbs, which is why if I got this kit I'd want to get Matt's 2pc 6th gen rotors...

Nothing I'd like more than having some lightweight wilwoods up front.

 

You might be able to call them and order without the rotors, or ask for 2pc rotors in that size...

That weight difference is pretty significant, more than I thought actually! 800 bucks is not a bad investment for brakes, especially when Brembos run in the 2k range, just save up

 

I'm running 6th Gen(12.6") 2pc rotors upfront in my 4th gen. They are available from fast brakes. I believe they're about 90 bucks a piece.

edit: sorry, my bad. I'm running 12.2" rotors up front...believe they're 5th gen rotors
