Anyone ever rebuilt a rear caliper?
Anyone ever rebuilt a rear caliper?
I was planning to pick up new calipers tommorow, but being that i need 2 and im not sure if i should go with a rebuild kit or just buy remanufactured ones. Seems like these companies that sell remanufactured ones just rebuild them, all your paying for is the labor and a clean finish. Any input on the work required/time?
I rebuilt both rear calipers on my '85 Pontiac. They hung up on the ebrake mechanism so I had to replace the pistons. It felt like the car would not brake for a split second.
May I ask why you want to replace the 4G rear calipers?

Check out www.rockauto.com, great prices. Prices are pretty reasonable so IMHO not worth doing the rebuild yourself. And they get to you in 1-2 days.
I've not rebuilt Maxima rear calipers but have done other cars and it is a pretty easy and straight forward job if you have an idea of what you are doing. Calipers are not complex mechanisms.
Again, I'm not sure of the Maxima's rear caliper make up but typically you'd need you standard socket set, an electric air pump, and maybe snap ring pliers (may not be required, or you can use two picks if need be). First time will prob take you 2-3 hrs.

Sorry guys, nm, i bought the pair of rears on ebay, refurbs, but pretty good looking. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...153699677&rd=1
Basically my rear rotor on my driver side is gone(i'll have to get pictures, its actually kinda funny), but this is due to continuous pad wear when the car was in motion. Im doing the set because if you gunna bleed the brakes and all might as well do two sides.

Any idea if i can sell my cores since the ebay seller didnt want mine, he said said $135 was the price for the pair with no need for core returns. So might as well get rid of the non working junk and get something for them. Where would i go to trade them in?
Got the calipers in just an hour ago. They were painted gold, so when i took it out i got covered in gold paint. I figure that will last about a week, then they'll look like the oems. Once im done i'll take pics of the purty new setup.
