Q45 new platform for 7th gen Maxima?

I was thinking, since infiniti didn't make a 07 or 08 Q45 (Which is suppose to be there flagship sedan), do you think this will be the new platform they would use for the 7th generation Maxima. I mean the Q45 is a perfect candidate all they have to do is move the wheels to the further corners, its already a rear wheel drive car, give an all wheel drive option, the car is overall bigger give or take a couple of inches here and there. Maybe not so much the outside appearance, but I guess we can leave that to the photo shop users. What do you guys think???

No, Nissan stated the '09 will go back to its original roots of sport luxury.

Wrong forum also.

Sorry I shouldn't have said Nissan directly since it is not official, but makes sense.

Here is the article.

Nissan seems to have lost its way with the Maxima after touting it as sporty alternative to the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord. Once called the Four-Door Sports Car, the Nissan Maxima now sits lost on top of the Nissan Altima, which seems to be more of competitor to the Camry and Accord.

But now, with the 2009 Maxima, Nissan will go back to the cars roots and make the Nissan Maxima a four-door sports car once again. The 2009 Nissan Maxima is expected to have a very aggressive design that will resemble the Mercedes-Benz CLS. Remaining a front-wheel drive vehicle, the car will carry Nissan’s VQ engine that is now used in most Infinitis.

A concept version is expected to debut this winter at one of the upcoming auto shows. We even think Nissan may use the Tokyo Auto Show to unveil the concept of the 2009 Nissan Maxima.

IMO, "sport luxury" = power + luxury + manual tranny or, (God forbid! on a family sedan!) a sequential manual tranny, i.e "paddle shifters". I don't think we'll be seeing any paddles on the 09 (unlike some moderately priced BMW's) or a 6 speed with a physical clutch-pedal.

I think the 6 speed manual is forever gone from the Maxima. Thats why my 5.5 gen 6 speed will be my last maxima. I hate autos and hate all these auto/manuals. If it don't have a third pedal then I aint buying....

say that after you have driven an 04 M3 SMG (or at least ridden in one). I will get an SMG vehicle (or another similar transmission) when I can afford it. It will be a great move for the maxima to have a similar transmission. but as it has been mentioned above, this is the wrong place to argue these points.

Regardless people prefer stick, I'm auto but stick is on its way. People buy Supra's stick for the fun factor. Oddly enought the Auto's produce more power yet people look for standard.

I think we will see a return of the 6-speed in the 7th gen.

Since when does a transmission produce power

I always thought they stole it... and if that's the case, since when does an automatic steal less power than a manual?

that is true, people like being able to shift when they want to and I agree that it may be fun. Honestly though, that can also be done with an SMG style gearbox (although this time with paddleshifters). I like being able to keep both hands on the wheel, not have to use the clutch to shift, and still be as fast as the manuals(which is why I love the SMG but can't afford it). I found the SMG to be pretty damn fun, but I do understand that some people still love the manual gearbox.

people buy supras stick because it makes no sense to drive a sportscar with an autotragic, and because they didn't come with a Sequentially manual gearbox.

This is the perfect opportunity for Nissan to make a killer Maxima that could destroy Toyota sales and steal BMW/Lexus sales, people originally bought 3rd and 4th Gen Maximas cause they where like a 5 Series BMW for half the price that 4dsc insignia it use to have.

Simply put take the M35/45 platform and put the Maxima on it in a RWD setup with optional AWD and bring a 6 or 7 speed auto out and return the 6 speed manual all with a CLS like style, I see it about the size of a small 7 Series or LS460.

Nissan needs to start making waves with their cars, they seem to be getting lost with the direction, they just seem to be blending in lately.

Sadly Im more excited to see what the Hyundai Genesis Concept is gonna offer then what Nissan is bringing out

Yummy, resembling a CLS sedan? If it looks anything close to the shape of the CLS, I'm sold.
