the trim is just glued on. but there is a groove that the trim follows. so it will look horrible unless its done right,

check euromaxima's white max. His is shaved as much as Ive ever seen a max. It looks really clean. go to car domain and search for euromaxima

yeah the doors look super smooth, but i dont see a groove, do u know if he filled it with compound ?

it seems as though the doors are smooth under the trim, without any grooves

need confirmation, also would goo gone work if the trim is peeled off on a hot day when the glue is loose?

If you look at the trim on your car. you will notice a groove just under the trim. that goes arounf the entire body. including bumpers. underneath the trim the is a very large groove and holes. so it does have to be filled. I believe you could just use compund for that. but it will have to be very well done.

you wont need to weld anything on to shave that body line, you can just fill it with bondo. welding all across a door skin could distort the skin and you could get waves across the panel and still you would need to bondo and putty (they are different). you could just fill the entire body line on the doors with bondo asuming you know how, sand until there are no high/low spots, and them skim over the work with putty to fill any holes/imperfections in the bondo. prime....wet sand(with block).....paint

On an I30, which I can only assume has the same door as a Maxima, that recessed area is 1/2" at the deepest points. Body filler should not be any thicker than 1/8" or the possibility of cracking will be greatly increased. Especially on a panel that is subject to alot of shock and pressure from being closed- unlike a fender or quarter. Stitch welding a small strip of sheet metal is one alternative, or using a fiberglass reinforced filler - either of which should receive a SKIM coat of body filler or "bondo" afterwards.

looks good above but i think its too much with the handles shaved. check out paradox systems gallery. when i did this i cut a line down the recessed area behind the molding, hammered to the right contour and welded back up. now i'm reskinning the doors.

i hadnt realized the recess is 1/2". and yeah fiberglass reinforced /corvette filler would probably be a better choice.

and you would want to skim it with putty after, not regular bondo. bondo can leave pin holes, putty wont. unless you were to stitch weld a strip, and then you would skim it with bondo first and then putty.

to do it right you will have to carefully weld a stip of metal over the groove, the grind the welds and skim bondo, sand primer and paint.

euro is right, i do alot of customizing on mini trucks and fullsize, including shaving everything and frenching, fiberglassing, and smoothing anything possible so i know how to do all of that, i was never really into cars untill just recently and i thought what the hell, lets make it a show car, and euro is 100% right imo, i don't trust fiberglass where metal can be placed and you will not warp the doors if you make a tack about every 1 1/2" to 2" until its fully welded and you also have to watch out for the grinder lol, i just wondered if anyone had it done cuz i have never seen it on another max other than euros, oh and we have the same name euro... nice lol

^^^ looks retardly stupid, something you see in need for speed....

i know you stated you enjoy in what you do and how the little things matter a lot, but if you not gonna do this yourself, at least the filling in, sanding an all, expect the shop to charge you an arm and a leg. all that filling in, sanding, prep work and painting will add up a lot. instead of all that money going in just to remove the body moldings which noone is going to realize except the people on this forum, i would spend it on something that will truely make a difference.
just my .02 cents

The molded plastic is attached to the doors with body panel tape. Remove the plastic, use an adhesive remover and scrape the old tape off. Go the the auto store, get body panel tape. Cut two thin strips, put it back on and your done. Easy....

Not that shaved doesn't look good or better. It is a lot of work to do properly though, and stitch welding takes a little skill and knowledge.

what the hell are you talking about, 1. i do everything myself 2. in person the little details when parked next to another max or if a person knows almost every car has body moldings it stands out alot more than you may think 3. when in a car show they are very tedious about every little detail, they notice almost every one, and how is that any difference in a waste of money than buying your red and clear tails, to a normal person not looking for it wouldn't see what they really are, they would look factory to them, yet you paid probably $200 or more for them, need i say any more, oh and need for speed is a great game and that car is bad, wheels are not my style but still pretty bad

ok, i said its gonna cost a lot IF YOUR NOT GONNA DO IT YOURSELF AS I ALREADY STATED.

second, clear tails i bought used for less than $100. yes, its a minor cosmetic mod but time, and money wise> time, money in removing molding.
third, gonna sound like a nerd but, need for speed sucks. forza 2, gt4, live for speed, toca racing> other driving games.

and no offense, whats the fun in car shows? all you do is let your car sit and have a couple people judge on how outlandishly your car stands out.

if you mod your car than you really already understand whats cool about car shows or you'd be riding stock. some ppl just take it further. not everybody goes wild with there cars (i don't like the look either but its whatever). i assume since he has customs in his name that he also shows to promote his buisness.

as for all the video game talk... i play galaga.
