Planning on doing a small tune-up to improve mileage.

Would like some input on specific items needed to replace.

-Fuel Filter
-O2 Sensors
-trasm. flush.

So, how much $ am I looking for each of these? What type should i buy, etc. And should i replace all o2 sensors?

if the engine light isn't on don't worry about it, you also need to replace your air filter

Air Filter = Appr. $12.00
Spark Plugs = $3.00 each NGK
02 Sensors = $80.00 Eeach
Tranmission Flush = Appr. $70-120
Fuel Filter = $15.00 from Autozone

You don't really have to replace your O2 Sensors unless the CEL is on for it. You might notice an increase in mpg if you change it anyways. And if you do, don't change the rear one after the cat, it doesn't affect mpg.

On top of what they said, take apart your intake system from your throttle body to the air filter and get some TB cleaner, etc... and clean all the dirt out of there. That should help a bit too. You can also run some Fuel Injector cleaner through the engine while your at it. Wait till your almost out of gas, then dump the bottle in when you fill up

+1 for TB cleaning---- it will let you feel good.

Clean all air intake is a good idea. Maybe clean the MAF sensor, too.

Remember to pour a bottle of injector cleaner. It costs a little, helps a lot.

I'd also suggest an oil change after you run the injector cleaner. Refer to the other thread on the 4th gen front page to pick what kind of cleaner you should run. Cleaner is rough on your oil, and a change wouldn't hurt it

Thanks for the replies.

Yea, i've already cleaned the IM and TB and MAF about 5 months ago. Left it spotless, so shouldnt be a problem.

My mileage is about 17-19mpg. 150k miles.

How many o2 sensors are there besides the one not needed to be replaced in the rear cat? ONly reason i want to change these is because people say sometimes they dont throw codes.

I might also look into a new KS.

Spark plugs are only about a year old.

If thats the accurate MPG that u r getting and no cel is on then checl for the ghost KS code,

in fact, there is more chance of u not calculating ur MPG correctly rather then the car malfunctioning.

r u using 91 octane ?

also this is what i would do for a tune up for any 4th gen

as far as specific tune up items, u need to look at that urself and see what has not been done in a while. i can name like 10 things that will cost u some decent money but there is no point for me to tell u this if half of those things were already done...

Downloading and reading the fsm is the best advice i can give you,

make sure you take care of all your fluids and replace with proper ones if u bought your car used u dont know what someone has done to it before.

belts, all caliper pins-they tend to get rusty from water entering the boot and seize up, check pad wear for that. To me a tune up is done for all the maintenance needs, not just the general plugs and oil...

PS: if you had your car for a while and have performed some maintenance then you should follow the mileage interval outlined in the manual/fsm

why buy 3 dollar plugs. might as well spend the extra 8 and get the NGK platinum or iridium.
but yea i have a similar slow pull problem and poor miliage. fuel filter and TB dirt seems to be what most say.
