Dash lights go out when lites turned on ?

Hi guys - This morning my dash / radio and climate lites went out when I turned on the headlites. This has never happened before - I've had car about 8 months. Is this some kind of error warning or just a problem in the light stem ? Last weekend I did the clock-always-bright wire thing, but nothing else in the dash, so I can't think of what the cause is. Any ideas ???

Sounds like a blown fuse

Sorry I wasn't really clear this am. When I turn on the lites, the acc. goes out, when I turn off the lites, the acc. comes back on. It's too light to tell for sure, but the instrument cluster seems to do the same, cause the odo light is visible and goes off/on like the other lites. I'll know for sure in a couple hours when its darker here. It's weird cause the radio and climate still work, but their lites don't. That's what makes me feel its in the signal stem.

I must have a blown fuse too. I never have the fuel light come on, a CEL has never come on... or am I just paranoid? Sometimes I let the gas go pretty low. But it seems like only the open-door and e-brake lights come on the dash.

This happened in our other car, turned out the dimmer was all the way down. Check it.

YOU GOT IT !! I always keep mine all the way up, since I'm an old ***t an' can't see them in the sunlight. Mustve got brushed when cleaning. I made an evening of it, doing the always on cruise, and the KS resistor and PCV. Then when it got dark I checked the dash, and it was verrrry dim, invisible in daylite. Just the dimmer. BTW, I DID check all the fuses relevant, too.
THANKS for all the suggestions and the solution, EnervinE.

Another thing I did last week. I did the clock always brite thing and while it was out of the dash, I took a bit of blue collophane from a candy wrapper and covered the lcd. Now its brite blue instead of weenie green. That tip was posted in a detailing thread a few weeks ago, by a man using other colors to get a brite white, which I didn't want. Luckily I've got lots of candy with dif colors, so could pick my favourite shade. I forget who, but THANKS for that idea.

On my maxima the hazard light and the right side of the climate control lights dont work, any idea on what might be wrong, or what fuse to check?

prob just your bulbs are out behind the hazard's button and the climate control. The wiring for these are pretty simple, and there is only one fuse for the whole illumination thing. And if that fuse is out none of your lights will work.
