'95 Maxima cranks but doesn't start
My '95 Maxima cranks but doesn't start. What are the common cause of this if there's fuel, battery is good, starter is good? One of the mechanic tapped the ecu while turning the ignition and it started right up. I tried couple of time but it doesn't work so I think its something else.
if he tapped the ecu, why did'nt he check the connections, etc.??? make sure everything is plugged in and connected tightly.ie, battery terminals, alternator, clean your maf and air filter and check your plugs.
I can almost guarantee the problem is bad grounds to the starter. I just went through this problem over the last couple months and finally actually burned up my starter because I was out of town and the car wouldn't start, I didn't really have a choice but to try to keep cranking it hoping it would catch (it would usually start after like 30 seconds of cranking, but this time it didn't and I killed the starter).
Anyhow, per advice in various threads I added a couple large ground wires, most important was the one directly to the starter bolt, and then attacked the the other end to the chassis ground (under the battery, same place where the wire from the negative battery terminal attaches). Car started u IMMEDIATELY like a brand new car. Started in like 1/4 of a second of cranking, instead of 15, 30, 45 seconds. It's like a new car again. Total cost of the ground wires and terminals from local stereo store = $5 from. Try this before you burn out your starter like I did and have to spend $120 on a new starter, seriously. I'm positive this is your problem.
