Guys,
I live in so cal and am looking to get a '01 se anniversary soon. I used autobytel.com and someone called me back from huntington beach nissan. I heard you can get 3.8% financing with $500 rebate from nissan. With all the options he said it was 31k. Invoice was around 28.5 he said. They claim to sell it around 100 over invoice. Do you guys think they will change the rebate to more than $500 in august or something? How do you like this pristine vehicle? Anything you can suggest when going about buying this or mistakes that I should look out for? I have a '96 se max with 100k miles that I plan on keeping as the grocery go getter...........
Thanks guys!!
Dave

Hey, I got a maj-blue one with $27640.00 The sticker was like 31K. It has tcs, meridian pkg, bose, etc.. no mud guards though. I basically got the car for base sticker with all of the options for free.
The only complaint I got about the AE is that the gauges don't seem to be as classy as the ones were in my 2kse. the back lighting, and all of the dummy lights seem cheap to me.
I think that now is a good time to buy cause the car dealers are hurtin'. nissan for sure. just haggle the hell out of them! if it takes you 4 or 5 hours, a day to save 3-4K its well worth it.
san jose... if you can believe that!

Dave, I also got a fully loaded Majestic Blue for about $28,000. That price included the only two options that I added, which we're CD Changer and Tinted Windows. I got the 3.9% financing, but there was no rebate at the time.
You can definately do better than $31,000. If your willing to come to San Antonio, Texas I know the dealer I purchased from has a few left.
You could call Tricia Evans at Gunn Nissan. (210) 496-0806 She was very good to work with.
Good luck, I think you will love the car. I certainly do...

I bought mine as a fully loaded demo... it had 5800 miles on it. The sales rep quoted me 1/2 percent over invoice, but I noticed that the wheels were all messed up (looked like the finish was coming off). I actually posted a thread out here about it and everyone seemed to agree they looked bad. The sales rep told me that the wheels were not going to be replaced because I was buying the vehicle as a demo. I got off the phone with him and called the owner of the dealer. Not only did they replace all the wheels under warranty but they knocked off $4000.00!! There were lots of hassles but I think it was worth it in the end. I traded in a 96 Max SE. Sounds like your is a good deal as well.... be sure to check the rims over good!

Paid $28.4K for mine. (28,408.14 to be exact. Don't ask me how they came up with *that* number...
)They gave me $500 additional on my trade-in (over bluebook, fine with me) 'cause I paid cash, and they had a $500 dealer incentive at the time. (No customer incentives at the time.)
I probably could have gotten the car a couple of hundred lower, but I didn't want to haggle over 0.75% of the car's price, and the dealership I bought if from is only a couple of miles away from my house. I'll probably make it up on the convenience alone.
On the other hand, I paid almost $2,400 in taxes, not including license.
Sorta puts things in perspective. At least I didn't take the loan interest hit.Ya' know, I did the "Keep the old car for crappy stuff" thing once. Didn't work. Had so much fun driving the new one, that the old one just sat 90% of the time. Wasn't worth keeping the insurance on it.
How to buy it? Go in informed, but not with an attitude. Know what *you* want to pay for the car, not what the *dealer* wants you to pay for the car. Don't begrudge the dealer a small profit, but remember that Nissan has a 3% kickback to the dealer.
Best times to buy are the end of the fiscal quarters. Next one will be at the end of September. Waiting to see if the rebates will change is like waiting for your stock to go up. It might go up, it might not, it might go down, but *no* one will know until it does. (Unless Nissan wants the info leaked.)
Oh, if the salesguy/manager is really good, they'll look like you're trying to take food from their infant. Don't fall for it. Life's tough all over.

Oh, and make sure they know you're SERIOUS about buying, and be prepared to walk. (You come in drooling on the car with a hardon, and you'll see the dollar signs in the salesman's eyes.) With the 2002's coming out in a few months, the dealers know what the score is. Chances are they'll stop you before you get to the door.
