i have a 92 se. i've read lots of threads suggesting cleaning the iacv as a good cheap way to potentially tune up the idle a bit. none of the threads i've seen mention buying a gasket. is there one that needs to be replaced when i take the iacv off to clean? the 2 nissan dealers closest to me are an hour each way, so i'd like to order it ahead of time if that's the case. i couldn't find a reference to any gasket or seal in the fsm, but just to be on the safe side...

 

yes there is a gasket, and yes you should have one, unless you really trust silicone gasket material stuff.

 

Yup,there is a gasket you need to buy(not sure on the part # though)

Be sure to get all of the old gasket off before you put it back together.

They're cheap or you can make one out of gasket paper, just keep the old shards to match. Take a picture of the old one on the IACV. There is an orientation to putting it back on.

 

I don't have a gasket. I have a phenolic intake spacer, and black silicone on each side. But that's just because of the spacer. Same goes for my TB and dualduct. No gaskets there either.

They only cost a few bucks at the dealership, but I would make sure you have one in your hand before removing your IACV. No dealers in my area had one in stock and I had to wait several days for one to arrive from California.

I made the mistake of removing the TB and IACV, then going to the dealer to get the gaskets. The car sat in the garage until IACV came in.

 

ordered a gasket today, $10.25 Canadian. not bad at all. while on the phone with the dealer i priced out anti-squeal hardware for brakes (metal shims). they want $66 each set, front and rear. ouch. internetautomar, do you stock those shims? couldn't find them on your site.

 

The better quality brake pads come with metal shims attached. You dont need to buy seperate shims.

 

i've seen pad sets with the backing shim attached, but never seen the shims included that the pads slide along.

Yes, you need a gasket.

 

you can clean the TB w/o taking it off. On the 92-94 SE's you have to take the TB off to clean the IACV but not on any other 3rd gen.

So for your car you need an IACV gasket to clean both the TB and IACV.

The iacv/throttle body are 2 separtate items on both ve/vg engines,you do not have to buy a gasket to clean the t/b on a ve engine,just spray t/b cleaner into the t/b..

To the OP: Stay with your original plans with the iacv gasket,but you do not have to buy a t/b gasket if you are just going to clean it..

 

i didn't think i needed to take off the tb to get at the iacv, but his post had me wondering. i was hoping to avoid confusing by stating in my original post which year/model it was. thanks.

You could but I wouldn't recommend it. It's better just to take the three bolts off, clean IN the throttle body (Not just the lower Intake Manifold) Clean out the lower intake manifold and replace gaskets and put it all back. It's just better practice and you know you won't have to worry about it down the road.

 

I swear when I posted at 1:48 it said 92 gxe under his name. I double checked before I posted too....

Forgive my ignorance, but what is an IACV? and where is it?

Idle Speed Control Motor
Throttle Air Bypass Valve

 

I dont know if the iacv gasket part number for the vg is the same for everywhere but for Nissan of America it is 23785-21V140 so if anyone needs to replace it instead of giving your vin # to get it.

IACV gasket part number: 29785-21V140

 

As long as this is back up... VE IACV gasket is 23785-97E00
