Hey this may belong in the sticky but Epinions.com rates Mothers Carnauba Californea Gold Original wax #1, anyone use it on there maxima?

I've got mixed feelings with epinions. Most of the top rated stuff I've gotten turned out okay. But the Valentine 1 is rated #1 while its #3 on radartest.com so I really don't know.

As for wax anyone use that one...

BTW, have you guys seen those tire tint sprays, I'm about to get silver to match the car hehehe, the future maxima rice boy is in your presence, I almost bid on this neon glow thingy that goes inside your car that flashes to the suroundings, bump, bump-bump...

I've always used mothers products, I've never had a complaint.

They're actually good. I use the car wax "system" with the #1 Pre Cleaner, #2 Sealer/Glaze and #3 Carnauba Wax. The bad side about it is the PreCleaner leaves a lot of chalky dust when you buff it out. The other two are easy to apply.

I've stopped using Mother's...

Only because I read in, I believe it was consumer reports about 5 years ago or some type of comparison mag, that it was one of the more abrasive waxes compared to the other 6 or 7 companies in the test - I think. So I've been using Mcguires but maybe switching to Zaino since it gets good reviews here on .org.

But judging by the shine on maximawanabee's, it looks pretty darn good.

Carnuba wax is ancient technology

From what I've read, all the major detailing
product manufacturers have polymer-based products
in the market or ready to enter the market.

I had an email discussion with Sal Zaino (he'll
talk to anyone, even a small-time customer
like me) and he said that polymer-based products
are better suited to today's automobile paints,
which are, you guessed it, also polymer based.

Carnuba wax was great when cars had enamel paints
and lacquer finishes, but it's a different
landscape now.

That's what little I know on the subject...

I have read the same things just stated in the previous post by Scooter. It costs a bit more but Zanio is the best I have used so far.

I use PRO brand Satin Creme, a carnumba paste. I wax/polish once a week and am very satisfied with the results. The application lasts pretty long, even through heavy rains.

AdamK,
Yeah...I used to use Meguire's Gold Class on my last Max...and still do on my parent's cars. It does pretty well as a normal apply every two-three months wax. For my new Maxima I was just looking for more of a "paint care system" than a run of the mill wax, hence the Zanio.

I can tell you that most of epipions.com is biased on the radar tests like people are here. They will tell you V1 but they have never tested both.

Zaino

Zaino takes a lot of time and work when u first put it on. Plan on taking a day to do it. They recommend you wash your car with a dishwashing soap (like Dawn) to strip off all previous waxes so you have a bare surface if you dont have Zaino applied already. This is the best wax I've ever used. Once you have done all the steps (polish lok, Dawn wash, claying, first coat etc.) it's really easy to put more coats on. The shine is excellent and it lasts a long time. In the long run, I actually spend less time waxing my car that with other waxes I've used in the past.

Don't mean to be a jerk, but none of Zaino's products are waxes - they're all polishes. I've asked this before but never got a response. As polishes, isn't it bad to use Zaino too often?

Don't worry, it won't take you the whole day to Zaino since you didn't order the claybar. For me, the claybar was by far the longest step in the Zaino process - it took me several hours clay my car. Without the claybar, it will probably take you less than 3 hours to do your car.

Also, I think you got the order wrong. Here are the steps you need to follow for the first Zaino coat:

1. Wash your car with blue Dawn to remove any wax on your car.
2. Dry your car
3. Apply Z1, using thin thin coats
4. Without removing Z1, apply Z2, using thin thin coats
5. Wait until Z1+Z2 dries, usually at least an hour
6. Remove Z1+Z2
7. (Optional) Apply Z6

For subsequent coats of Zaino, wash with Z7 instead of dawn, and skip the Z1.

Remember to use thin coats of Z1 and Z2, otherwise you will be waiting forever for it to dry. Zaino claims you can do 8 cars with each bottle of Z2, but I think 15 is more realistic.

Anyhow make sure you follow the directions that come with your Zaino package. You definitely won't be dissapointed with Zaino.

Yah I read into it some more and I realized it, thanks guys for the excellent tips, I can't wait to get my Zaino in. As for the guy with the Polish question, well I'm no expert, but you only have to Polish several times a year and it will be 100x better than wax from what I read....thanks again everyone!!!!!!!!!!!

Despite the fact that Zaino is called "Zaino Show Car Polish" it is in fact a synthetic wax. It has no abrasives in it whatsoever. And unlike natural waxes, Zaino will not build up or yellow with time. So no, it's not bad to use Zaino too often, in fact you could use Zaino every day if your budget allows.

By the way, this thread should be renamed.

Adam,
What's up Homie? Hey...sorry I didn't see all of your Zanio questions until now. Oh well...

It looks like you are ordering all of the right stuff. The only thing that I didn't notice anyone telling you was to use the Z6 detail stuff in between coats of Z2. Also use the Z6 after every car wash.

Another thing that I would highly recommend would be using a clay bar. You don't have to get the Zanio brand bar, just grab one from any auto store. If your car is a 2000 then I'll bet that there is stuff that you can't even see bonded to your paint. It will take a lot of extra time, but if you do it right the first time, then it will look better and perform longer. I wish I had used the clay bar on my car the first time I applied Zaino, then I wouldm't have to totally redo it sometime this summer.

Let me know how it turns out.
If you didn't order it yet, this place ships quick.

But I'm sure I can buy a clay bar at pep boys or somewhere for cheaper, is it a specific car kind or any clay bar? thanx again man, I should start payin' you all for helpin me, peace!

Pep Boys or Autozone should sell Mother's Clay bar, which comes pretty highly recommended. Many have said that Meguiar's isn't that great, so I'd look for Mother's. One suggestion, however, is not to use the spray detailer that comes with the clay bar as lube, but instead use the water/Z7 mixture as recommended by Zaino. And make sure you use plenty of lube, otherwise you will scratch your car up.

When I used the claybar in the Zaino prep process I could not believe how smooth my paint turned out. It's definitely worth it if you have the time.

I definitely agree with Flomax, use Z6 in between coats of Z2. I use Z6 both before applying Z2 and also after removing Z2.

I am currently using Mcguire's Gold Class. Not particularly wowed. The wax doesn't really hold that well. I am going to go over to to a polymer based solution, probably the 3M line of products. I would go Zaino's but I don't want to have to deal with customs.

Up here we get some bad winters with tons of salt. I wax in late october, early november and then only have a chance to was again late may, early april.

I work at a Nissan dealer detailing cars new and used and I can tell you this much. We use both carnuba based waxes and Polymer based waxes. We will generally use the Carnuba products as a quick wax to be used inbetween polymer waxes because longevity of carnuba is far less than Polymer. What you have to understand though is all wax will melt at a temperature around 128 degrees so really no matter what products you are using during the summer.. they will not last for a very long time. Since I have access to all of these products I have developed my own system for keeping my finish PRIME.. First off a buff with a medium cut rubbing compound is a must.. This will get all of the waterspots out of your paint and bring the finish down to the clearcoat. I recomend getting your car buffed or wet sanded by a proffessional because this could serioiusly damage your car. Afterwards I generally would apply a polish that is matched with your car.. darker polishes for darker cars and lighter polishes for lighter cars. Follow this up with a Polymer based clear wax and you wont have to deal with all the white chalky crap that gets all over your car. This chalky **** is what wastes most of your time when waxing a car. In the period of about a month I will wax once with the polymer and 3-4 times with the carnuba. The carnuba we use is available in a spray and lasts approximatly 4-5 days on your car but can be applied in a matter of 4 minutes REALLY. Your finish will feel soft and smooth to the touch trust me. If anyone wants I can obtain the products we use at the dealer for fairly cheap prices. I just purchased a whole bottle of Polymer wax that will give approximatly 50-60 waxes for 40 dollars. It comes in jugs larger than Gallon milk jugs. I can also get the Carnuba spray on wax made by Crystal Image for around 30 dollars.. If anyone wants these products they will have to act soon because I leave for school and will no longer have access to them after I leave nissan.

Peace
