i am thinking about cutting a coil or so off of my h&rs. I was going to get the sprints, but i have heard they will KILL my tokicos.....so i just want to get the wheelwell gap a little lower in the front so i want to cut a coil.....

1) Will this ruin my springs 2)will it kill my struts? 3)any long term effects like over time it ruins the springs 4)Is it worth it?

Cutting your springs defeats the purpose of the spring design, if you want to go lower, get new springs. If you are gonna go lower I would also recommend going with a different strut, possible the Konis or KYB AGXs. I like the stance of the H&R/Tokico set-up. If you do decide you are gonna change let me know and I may be interested in your springs. Just a thought, if you want to go lower do it the right way, not the ghetto way.

ive thought the same thing.... but i am NOT buying new struts.. these cost too much in the first place. Anyways from what i am hearing there are no springs that are lower than H&Rs (ie Sprint, Intrax) that arent any harsher. Thats why i am trying to come up with some thing else that will lower the wheel well gap

 

i had eibachs at first. to much gap up front just right at at the back. i swapped them out for sprints now my front looks good but the back is damn near stock!! i want to find someone who is getting rid of their eibachs and put the eibachs in the back to even out the heigth.

 

what kind of struts are you running? Also how is the ride so far on the struts

 

Um yeah, I cut a link off my front springs.

When I first got the car in 95, I took it to a rice shop and they installed a set of cut Suspension Technique springs(I didn't realize this until a year or so later, this was before anyone was hopping up there Maxima, so I didn't have a reference for my total drop). Anyways, it looked sweet. It was only a week after getting this installed that I took it to Germany and never had any complaints. The German roads are IMMACULATE. Simply perfect. The car handled beautifully especially at 130+ mph. Well, when I got back to the U.S., I couldn't handle the ride on crappy American roads, so I bought new H&Rs. Well after a year of that and the unacceptable wheel gap, I went back to cut springs. So I've got the Tokicos and 1-link-cut-in-the-front H&Rs. I wouldn't keep it this way, but I'm going back to Germany, so who cares.

All in all, it looks good but rides bad. I hate slowing down for bumbs, but you can't have your cake and eat it too. Maybe I'll go with Konis and my springs, if I were to do it again.

i have the factories in. around town the ride is fine but when i hit a bump at high speed the *** end bounces too much. when i put the sprints in i looked over my shocks and struts they seemed fine to me.
