Please help:Which amp to buy (to run w/Boston speakers)
Hello all,
First, I would like to say thank you so much for any info that you might provided.
I'm quite new at this thing so please help me out. I'm looking to buy a amp with the price range from $300-$500 which capable to handle 4 channels (2 front/2 rear). And here is a little info of my vehicle ..... I do have the ....In-dash CD changer/cassette/DSP Receiver ALPINE 3DA-W880; Boston Accoustic speakers: Pro-series 61/2 on the front and RM-6 on the rear ......
.....Is there any good performance amp(s) that you might suggest me to go with? BTW, I'm not planning to install any sub-woofer at all, just want to have a better sound with 4 speakers in the cabin.
Once again, thanks millions for your helps. Warm Regards.

Check to see how much power those speakers can handle...just look in the instructions or on the box and write down the RMS and the Max Power handling. I would get an amp that can send a little more power then the RMS to the speakers. But to be honest with you...I am not a big car stereo guru so someone else might tell you otherwise and be right.
I am getting Boston Acoustics speakers next week for my car....for the front I am getting the FX6 6.5'' and for the rear I am getting FX93 6x9's. I have the Clarion DRX8675z which is just 45x4 and I am not planning on using an amp to power the speakers.
Whatever amp you buy make sure that it's quality and has a brand. You'll see MA Audio or Legacy amps dirt cheap which claim huge power but they will cause a lot of distortion to your speakers which you do not want. Those cheap amps are only useable to power the subs because it doesn't matter if there is distortion going to them. That's why good, powerful amps are pretty expensive but if your price range is in the $400's you should be able to buy a nice one. Check EBay...they often have good stuff.
That's my opinion anyway.....like I said before..I am not a big expert in this field so get someone else's advise too.
Let me know if you find any good deals.
Good Luck,
Roman

Thanks so much for the info, I'm really appreciated it. And....What is the RMS? I just do not remember what is the maximum handling power of those speakers but here is what I found from their site (www.bostonacoustics.com)....
* Speakers:................6.5 Pro series.....RM6-RM Coaxial
* Recommended Amp:....20-400 watts.......12-200 watts
* Normal Impedance:.........3 ohm................3 ohm
* Frequency Response:...50-22,000 Hz........50-20K Hz
+/-(3dB in car)
And as mentioned, I will only go with the good reputation Brands, and I'm not a big fan of Ebay though (so sorry, no flame please). BTW, I think my head unit is 35x4, so with an amp, I think it will sound a bit better, right? ....he...he..
Once again Roman, thanks million for your help. Warm Regards.

Hey,
RMS means that is the power these speakers can handle continuously(sp?)....the max power basically means that they'll handle that power for a very short time.
You might want to talk with Maximadave who runs a very high quality stereo shop in California called Tweeter...it's a nationwide chain...perhaps he can give you some good deals on amps.

Did I hear someone call my name?
Look into the JL 300/4...it's 75 watts by 4 and sounds killer. I'm running the same amp running 2 sets of power hungry Eclipse point source speakers and they are clean. You can check out the amp at www.jlaudio.com let me know if you have a Tweeter store near you so you can pick up the 300/4 amp say for $450.00...let me know
