went to the dyno saturday morning. the only power mod i have had done since my last dyno run is removing the intake resanator and a custom 2.5" mandrel bent cat back piping.
180.2 hp and 191.1 tq compared to the last run of 173.7 hp and 187.2 tq. pretty good gains for only $156.30. my goal is to clip the 200tq mark. i figure a underdrive pully and putting the factory 15s w/nitto 555r on will get me close. the most amazing thing is that i am making 170lb ft of tourqe at 1700rpm! hp starts low at 1700rpms and builds smoothly. i also want to find a se ecu cause so i can get rid of the speed limiter. the horsepower doesnt seem to signifitly fall off when it hits 120 mph. i know there isnt a lot of power past 6000rpms but i would like to see what happens. i made two runs in fourth gear and one in third. third gear came up with the same numbers. which is good.

How much HP do you have to the front of the car A.K.A. the kind of horsepower all the manufactorers rate the cars when they make them.

all this dyno talk is killing me... I'll have to dyno my car soon... I think I must be also to 200 at the wheels... when I launch now my front pulls up a lot and my rear spoiler is rattling like crazy yet is is still on there really tight... I'll have to try and get that on video...

... what does 'remove the intake resantor' mean? How is this done? Cost, if any? Gains/benefits? Negatives? Thanks.

the UDP actually makes the car gain 1 hp low end.. and lose hp on top end

Very very very doubtful you're hitting 200fwhp. Your trap speeds are a clear indicator of hp. 94mph trap speeds with your decent 60 foots equate to about 175-180fwhp in a 4th gen Maxima. 94mph trap speeds are very typical for 5 speeds with an intake and Y-pipe. You just happen to be able to put the power down to the ground a little better than most. If you had 200fwhp you'd be close to 14.0s.

Could you please show me the before and after dyno that proves this? Thanks

i am curious what percentage of horsepower is lost from crank to wheels in a stock auto maxima and if this percentage is lower than the norm for auto v6 sedans. i have driven a galant gtz auto which i believe produces approx. 195hp and weighs about the same as a max. it felt very sluggish compared to a maxima.

I dont get this...

What I dont understand is why if your car has 190hp stock then when you are getting your dyno your only getting around 17 or so? Where is that extra 20 hp going?

Resonator=black box between airbox and throttle body. It helps to quiet the intake and also attaches the IAC and breather hose to the intake. Performance gains without it? 1 HP.

What are the negatives, if any? Decreased gas mileage? Drivability probs? Noise increase? Thanks.

Is it easy to do? Easy to put back? Thanks again.

Does this include the ram air duct? I have always wondered about removing it but I figured..maybe it get's some cool air into the engine? Thanks

Sprint, thanks for sharing your views but I have all ready ordered a UDP so I sure hope it does something..

The UDP doesn't hurt you anywhere in the powerband. I noticed a nice, consistent increase throughout the entire rpm range. I don't know where SprintMax is getting the hp loss at highend, because myself and others with the UDP sure aren't seeing it.

Well, the '95s have an additional resonator that isn't present on the later models, its attached to the intake, and what does it do? Don't know, its a sealed box that leads nowhere. The ram air duct delivers air closer to the intake, assuming the stock airbox is still intact. I would imagine that it plays little effect underway, but is helpful while stationary.

As for the regular resonator? The Idle Air Control is attached to it, and that (the IAC) is vital to a smooth idle. My question becomes, 'Where would you mount it if you take the box out?' Answer: Don't know.

As for drivability problems or decreased gas mileage, I also don't know. It seems to be of little benefit to remove it.

I think I removed that resonator box only on the 95's that leads no where. I currently have a Stillen Intake and the Air temp Sensor mounts to the cone filter rather then the oem air box. I am still wondering about that damn air duct! I kinda just want to get rid of it to lose a pound or two .

I pulled mine out, just because I thought it was ugly. I really don't think it pulls that much more air into the engine. IMO, leaving it there nearly defeats the purpose of having cone intake in the first place.

i found the avreage crank to wheel loss of hp in maxes 5spd and auto to be 40hp. could not explain why the galant felt sluggish. i would compare 0-60 numbers from a car magazine like car&driver.

Remember that 190 hp is the peak hp for stock. the peak hp does not occur at the lower rpms that nismo2020 was referencing. the peak hp is realized at higher rpms.

check out http://maximadriver.com cheston used to have some graphic displays of dynos comparing the stock ecu vs the gforce ecu. this will help explain what i described above.
