hey everyone
tonight i was leaving "the pike" a place where everyone goes to race up here in CT and ill admit i was accelerating fast , but no where near racing acceleration , as i released the clutch after shifting from 2nd into 3rd at about 4700 rpm , i felt third gear literally blow apart as i let the clutch out , imediately i heard clunks and clanks as what im assuming are shards of third gear flying around the casing, it seems as if the syncros in first and 2nd are also dead , while coasting i can sometimes get into first or second but only at the right rpm and only at the right speed. third gear is completely gone , nothing left shift into where third is supposed to be and there is literally nothing there. the motor just drops to idle or revs freely if i give it gas , 4th and 5th work fine i had to get it home using 4th , this all couldnt happen at a worse time , i go back to college in a week , i am unemployed currently , i have a payment coming up in a month so this might mean that i have to borrow the money to fix the car and sell it to pay the loan off. heres what i need from anyone who can help , youll have to pardon if this makes no sense its 3am here. i need numbers like the numbers of the tranny , anyone who has heard anything about doing this, i need info big time, i used to work at a nissan dealer but i dont anymore (awesome timing i know) i really am at a loss i dont know what to do my head hurts just thinking about this , if u know anything about this let me know , sorry bout the long post thanks it advance have a good night

Were you trying to race Lime at the time? :)

Sorry to hear about the tranny. Well from what you have posted then a rebuilt tranny would be your only choice. It is way cheaper than getting a new one. Even if you worked at the Nissan dealer it would still cost an arm and a leg to fix it. There must be a good local mechanic that can rebuild the tranny for you. Worst come to worst then give AAMCO or some place similar a call and get an estimate.

You can not lock a FWD car. Check http://www.howstuffworks.com/differential8.htm for more info on diffs.

I'll see what I can do...that really sucks ...I'll call the boneyard by me and see what they have...they owe me a HUGE favor and if they have one, I'll put in a bid for you...just a quick question, 95-99 trannies are interchangeable, correct?

yes .. but if you can look for the I-30 manual tranny for him.. it has LSD and it will be an upgrade rather than a replacement

just over 70k, unless i can get this fixed for under 500 bucks im not gonna be able to keep the car, this was a huge stretch for me to buy this car. i go back to college in a week. i quit my job so that i would have some actually time off to enjoy some of the summer. so im screwed, if anyone wants a maxi with some mods in relatively decent shape before or after the tranny let me know , im also looking for an early 90's 5spd 240sx to replace the maxi, thanks for the responses any other suggestions lemme know

Well, an I30 tranny will prolly be more, but hey, I'll see what I can do. Oh, and Pete, I know you prolly don't want to, but how much for the sub and box...I need a sub for the car and 1 12" would be perfect. It'll give you a little extra money for the trans. fund. I have the day off tomorrow and I will see what the local yards have, after I get the fluids changed on the Z24. If you want, IM me @ accordtypesei. I'll prolly be out most of the day, so try after like 4. Trust me, I know what it's like to have a tranny go bad...

Ok, here's what I found. I can get you a junkyard tranny for about $1k, or you can bring it to this place I know of. I called them and he thinks it just might be a linkage or a clutch. I figure it's worth a shot for him to take a look at it. Also, if you're feeling ambitious, I can get you a tranny with good internals, but a broken case for like 350.

Here's the number of that place. It's in Bristol.
