My friend has a slightly modded auto gts. I have killed him in every race he has wanted or could think of. When we are done he swears if he had a stick it would be close or he would beat me. I find this hard to believe since even when he starts ahead of me at 40 i still pull on him. Have you guys raced them and what do you think about a max vs gts manual. The mag numbers say it should be close but mag numbers can lie.

 

A modded 6 speed I would think could hang (toss-up), I have a friend who has one and it feels quick, he could probably outrun my auto max.... (High revs and a 6-speed is hard to handle, and with a high reving engine like the celica's, you are wasting you money w/o a manual)

 

I have a friend with a 1991 GTS 5-speed. I slapped his @$$ in my 2nd gen 1985 SE 5-speed max by 10 car lengths to 100mph. Then we raced in my new car(see sig). I he beat me off the line a little, but by 20 mph I was infront of him again, and that was when I was stock. They are really no match for our maximas. The new ones are a different story though, but I havent had a chance to race one of those yet. I think you would still beat him if he were a 5(or 6)speed.

I race a guy occasionally on my way home from work. He as a new GTS 6spd, and I slaughter him every time. I haven't raced him in a while, but I did when I only had the CAI and it wasn't even close. I also chalk a good deal of it up to poor driving on his end. If you have a 5spd Max, and know how to drive it, you should have no trouble. I've heard that mods to the new GTS's don't do that much (like they only run ~15.2's with intake and exhausts). That's what I've heard, but not seen. I've only seen (and ran) what I think are stock, and they aren't a threat.
