Hey Guys and Gals,

I went to my local dealership in Lubbock, TX and took some photos of the 2002 Maximas they had. I took them at high noon, so really high direct sunlight.

They only had the black, white, sterling mist(or beige - couldn't distinguish), and the seascape green?

I plan on taking more when it's not so bright outside. They didn't have any 2002 Altimas, but once they get them, I'll post those too. I took some pics of the 2002 Frontiers and Xterras, but I don't know if anyone wants to see them?

i don't like the taillight. I do like the headlights. The front grill looks wrong/weird, but I can't point out why. Maybe too small? I don't like the exhaust tip. Back to the front bumper...it's like it doesn't have one.
I like the group pic...shows the rims off.
Thanx for the pics!

just curious: why is there even a center cap? Aren't the bolts accessable already?
Also, I was watching some kinda racing today on cable tv. Some kinda endurance thing where they have v8 race cars (not indy, but something similar with big front end and headlights)....they had 6spoke rims that look really good.

Thanks for the pics...it makes a difference to see these cars in the "real" world.

IMO:

1. I know what bugs me about the new rear lights...it is the amber part. Think if that was clear with an amber bulb, how much more integrated it would look. It is too many colors coming at you...the chrome, the red, the white, the amber, the metallic/gray, and the color of the car. I like the assembly, but think the problem is the amber.

2. sometimes change for changes sake is not a good thing. They should have left the front fascia alone. I'm so glad they waited a year to make the revisions...the front-end of the 00-01 looks better. There is something odd about this new front-end look. I dunno...maybe seeing one in person will change my opinion, but so far, the pics I've seen, well, I simply prefer the looks of the previous models.

3. Like the new wheels...although it appears someone was napping on the job and forgot to install a cap?

4. Absolutely hate these cars with a front-license plate installed; I know some of you can't help it, but the whole thing is just so obviously an afterthought of "oh, well, we gotta have a place for a plate, so oh well, just tack it on the front...like some kind of appendage. Awful.

5. ...gonna take a lot more than 30 more horses and a nav system to get me out of my 01 Max...

srm

Thanks

Great pics. I really like the new GLE wheel. I also agree with most that the 00-01 looks better.

SE rims look smaller than the previous ones. I can't quite put my finger in it, but it appears smaller. I like the front grill because it has a cleaner, less fussy look and doesn't look like a big black whole like the 00-01 from far away. I love the city light feature. I hope thats the only thing that comes on in front, well along with the front side marker, when you turn on the parking lights. Looks cool. I like the GLE rims better. The exhaust tips looks more upscale, less sporty though. The taillights look great in white. I'd love to see one in grey luster. I like the new and wider lower grill design. Nissan should have kept the blackout rear emblems along with the slight tilt to the right side. Overall, I think Nissan made the car look more upscale while at the same time add a touch of sportiness to the look.

FUGLY! I got the I30 over the new Max as its styling wasn't too hot either, but this takes the cake! The 00-01 is way better. Nissan better get their act together not just add some more HP from a truck engine and some more ugly plastic! The new I35 is worse then the I30 also! It sickens me. I have left Nissan for now, too much turmoil.

I hope they make their revival though, what we are seeing now are pathetic makeshift models to buy them some time till things are straight. They were the innovators of the compact truck (first one, first one with extra door, first one with 4 doors), and had several nice sporty models, the z, Se-R Sentra, 240 and 200SX.

In Jan the G35 is supposed to be out, a few months after that (less then a year from now) the G35 coupe! I hope this car and the new Z will be great and what they are craked up to be, then I may returne with the skyline coupe.

That truck engine is based on a car engine. Also, even though the Pathfinder/QX4 engines are of the same size as the Maxima/Altima 3.5, I think the 3.5 on the Maxima/Altima have different bore/strokes than the 3.5 used on the Pathfinder.

i also thought the 2002 was ugly, judging by the photos. today i saw one in person and i have to say that i thought it looked almost exactly the same, maybe even a bit better.

the only thing that bugs me is the nissan emblem. its way too big for its own good, but the 255 hp makes up for that.

about the grill

the grill may look odd because the front plastic bumper fascia actually comes up in the center encircling the grill. I think it looks too unproportionatly huge. So, anyone that want's the new grill needs a new bumper cover, and hood too I'd bet.

What I was meaning by truck engine is that just throwing more displacement at their cars isn’t going to solve all their problems.

The SE that I drove had the same rims as that dark colored GLE in those photos.

I'm surprised the dealer let you prance around snapping photos with no shirt on...

You can always do what most people are doing like me...... Just take the stuff you like from the 2K2 like the headlights. I dont like the tailights, but some people do on lighter color cars.

I think my car now is the exact way I want it except I love to do a nice engine swap!

Ha!... Sorrry. The pic with me in the reflection was taken at my house after I finished washing my Maxima. That's why there's still water droplets around as well. Sorry for the confusion. I wonder if a dealer would care if I was walking around half-naked on their lot anyhow?
