i raced against a 4th gen maxima 5-spd (could tell the way he shifted....or sound of it) we were already going about 20-25 but he pulled up next to me then gunned it, then i gunned it but i was barely catching up, i think he was even pulling away
i hav a stock 2000 maxima se auto
my friend says it couldve been i had a full tank of gas
but thats really not an excuse to me
did i do something wrong? was he lucky? or u think there were some mods involved in that car?
it sounded like there was an intake but thats about it

How do you define a "good 5 speed driver" ?

Stick vs Auto. Big advantage on his end already.

well, it sounds like you were pretty even.... given the extra weight of the 5th gen and the fact you have a stock auto, thats not bad.

UDP with belts = 200
intake = 170

VB should help.... no extra power from it, just less lag in between shifts

In this case (from a roll) I would define it primarily as someone who knows the car's gearing well enough to be in the *best* gear for a particular speed.

For example, on the 5th gen about all you need to do is be in the lowest gear possible for a given speed. I think the exception to that is you cannot be too high in the rpm band (around 6200) in the lower gear or the time it takes to shift will outweigh the benefit of the lower gear (i.e second at 6200 compared to third). The 4ths have a different hp curve that peaks lower, so the answer for them would be a bit different.

Next, know when to shift. Again on the 5ths, it is an easy answer - redline. Since max hp is at red-line that's the best you can do. On a 4th, the shift point will be somewher past max hp to maximize the area under the hp curve and keep rpms close to max hp.

Finally, know how to shift. A powershift will give the best advantage since it will have the least amount of time off power.

Agreed. If you drop it a couple hundred then it might be a deal.

Hey dude ... u wrote in your post that it's the deal u offered him ... not what someone else was offering him ...

people comment on what they read ... obviously u worded it in such a way that it appeared that u were the one selling the goods ... that's why I wasn't the only one who commented ...

n e ways .. don't b a retard ... never buy stillen stuff from stillen ... they'll always charge a lot more ... go to one of the dealers online ...

Phuong of www.eatricezone.com
Paul of www.avalonracing.net
Greg of www.custommaxima.com
Brian of www.cattman.com

Intake u can only get from Phuong or Paul
Y-pipe ... Brian makes a better y than Stillen does
UDP u can get from n e of them except Brian

Hogan is having a GD on the UDP right now ... check the GD forum

ok ... but my final advice is to buy it from someone else other than Stillen ... get it from a Stillen dealer if you have to ...

Stillen is not cheap ****? uh oh ...

Then ...

1. What's wrong with the idler pulley on all the V2 Superchargers?

2. Are you calling Cattman's products 'cheap'?

3. Stillen doesn't make a UDP ... they are simply selling UR's ...

4. The intake is simply a K&N filter that Stillen has made an adaptor for ... JWT also sells one that is about $50 cheaper.

5. Others have made a DIY OSCAI which they claim is just as good. It will cost you less than $30 USD.

Dude ... just b/c it's expensive ... doesn't mean it's good **** ...

Not knocking Stillen b/c I have a lot of Stillen parts ... just knocking your logic ...

will has been helpin me out with parts
he has some hookups
and adding a intake/y/udp(belts) costs close to 800 i thought
like y was about 400
intake about 200
and udp about 220
thats about $800
another ques if anyone is still reading this....wuts diff betweeen a torque converter and a valve body....i thought they did the same thing...??

An aftermarket torque converter will engage @ a higher rpm, thus launching you a bit harder, and during launch, you'll be closer to the power band and accelrate faster, the vb mod quikens shifts, and is a lot easier to do than a hi-stall torque converter. The vb can be done with the tranny still intact with the car, while the torque conveter option requires that you take out the tranny from it's home, that being the car we call The M4X1M4. And for prices, I got my 1st gen Stilen Y w/ equal length pipes for 250, JWT intake for 80, and I can if I wanted to get the UDP for ~180, and add the belts, then it's total will be 2 bills for the udp. My advice as well, don't buy from STEALIN. Buy Stillen parts but not from them. Back to the thread, I raced a stock 2k1 5spd, it was even til about 30mph, then all I saw was 2k1 SE Black Outlined tailamps, But hey, I'd rather lose to a Maxima than a Civic. BTW, the gurl driving the 2K1 max was hot, so I looked funny in front of a hot chikk, but I didn't care, she had a Maxima, what more could a guy ask for?
