Does anyone have any good tips on how to have your engine super clean? My engine is very dusty even though I try to clean it as best I can. Thanx

My Nissan mechanic cleaned mine (without asking) during one service visit. He says he first sprays the engine with water, careful not to get the filter wet and then sprays wd-40 while the engine is still wet. Drive your car, letting it fall off by itself and then wipe down with a clean rag.

I've down it myself a couple of times and it works well.

This stuff is nice...wet your engine down...spray the stuff on and watch it work. Smells like sasafras too.

No kidding, I bought some of that engine degreaser once and almost chocked to death after spraying it on the engine. Castrol super clean is no better. I stick with simple green, I'd rather not inhale nasty fumes if I can help it and it works great

One word of warning though, DON'T DO IT ON A HOT ENGINE! You should be able to put your hand on the block and be able to keep it there, if the engine is hot spraying cold water on it could cause stress fractures which would be quite bad...

Thanx for the tips I will try that out this weekend.. Any cables in particular that I should cover up? So I just spray the simple green and wipe it off right? Or do I just let it sit?

Depends on who you ask I don't cover anything up, we don't have a distrubtor which would be my main fear. If you have a stock intake I'd cover up the inlet. Other than that, I don't worry about it. I just spray it over with simple green and then hose it down, spray undiluted simple green on tough spots, generally doesn't require scrubbing. Others like to spray it on and wipe it off with a cloth and no water. While that's probably safter, I'm too lazy for that and my engine is clean enough that the hose does the job.

I am with Maxipad here. Use simple green. Don't use purple power! It is corrosive.

Just use water every so often.

Consistent maintenance is they key. Once a monthish.
Word of warning - If you use a high power sprayer instead of just a garden hose-nissans in general have always been succeptable to water interfering with the firing of the spark plugs. Seems most japanese cars are like this. If you drive it immediatley afterwards the engine may sputter a bit due to excessive moisture that hasn't evaporated. Takes about 30min to an hour before everything is back to normal.

Try this guys, you will be glad you did!!!

Like the most of you,I use to use Simple Green. BUT, several years ago, I read an article in SportC.C. that interviewed some big car detail shop (in Cal. I think).. They recommended Whestlys White Wall Cleaner for cleaning the motor. I tried it and have never went back!! I believe it still comes in a white spray bottle.. This is all I buy it for..

Good luck,

James
