What is the performance difference between 8" & 7.5" in wheel width ...

The wider the tire, the more contact it makes on the ground which provides for better handling. However, it will be at the expense of power because the wheel will be heavier.

I think the ride comfort is also compromised

I think you'll feel the road more with a wider tire. I have 17 X 8 GS400 wheels and the wheel and tire combo is about 48 lbs. The added width makes more contact to the road (think of a racing bike's tire compared to a BMX).

performance is going to better with 8'' rims.... they fit a 235 series tire and you will also have a slightly higher sidewall on your tire b/c of the extra width..... i have 7.5s and wish they were wider

tkx guys! this has helped .. though I wonder if the extra 0.5" is worth $1000 ....

No prob. Haha...for a G, I don't think 1/2 an inch is worth it either.
