Newbie Here!! Question on Maxima Price

Hello all,

While I'm not a newbie to bulletin boards, I am a newbie on here, so hello!! Anyway, my wife and I went hunting for a car on Saturday and we found ourselves at a Nissan dealership. We originally went in looking at the '02 Altima, but since they're just out, they're not budging on any prices. They offered us a 2001 Maxima GLE (that Graphite Grey color), pretty loaded (Sunroof, Traction Control, and Meridian Package/Trim) for $26,900. My question obviously is, is this a good price? I've checked CarsDirect.com and they are offering the same car for about $700 below invoice (around $25,400). I know that carsdirect gets good prices compared to dealers, but wouldn't it be reasonable to walk into the dealer and expect the same price? That's what we're planning to do, but I just wanted to see if any of you had any insight. Thanks in advance!!

you should be able to get a 2k1 maxima pretty cheap... they will try to unload those so you have a lot of leverage in terms of price. Are you sure you don't want a 2k2 maxima instead?

Anyhow, welcome to the board

Hey, if is was up to me, it would be a 2002 Maxima SE 6-speed, but it's the Mrs. car, so it's up to her!!

Thanks for the reply....

BTW... does it make a difference if we're planning to lease? I figure we should negotiate the price of the car, then lease based on that....

Re: Newbie Here!! Question on Maxima Price

That seems high for this time of year. I was able to get a GLE with the same options back in May for $1000 under invoice at Miller Auto Plaza in St. Cloud, MN. That was about $400 better than any dealer here in the Mpls/St Paul. There was some kinda dealer rebate thing going on at that time which may not be in effect now.

why dont you see Nissan dealers in your area and make them fight for your business? My friend's mom got her 2000 GLE for 26.9 on the road (tax and tags included) at the same time a year ago. It's the end of the model year clearance, you should find yourself below the invoice. whatch out for "dealer-installed options" like "Paint protection plan" etc those folks wanna make money on you in any hole they can.

Wow guys, thanks for all of the replies!!

We haven't decided on whether or not we're going to use carsdirect b/c a couple of people we know who went through them had some problems. We also know people who had flawless transactions, so right now we're pitting the dealer(s) vs. carsdirect's price!!

Just print out the pricing invoice from CarsDirect and walk it in to the dealership. If they don't try to top it then it's definitely their loss because CarsDirect contracts with dealers anyways...they might as well get the business straight from you. Good luck.

Heres one for ya,
If you take a look at the 2002 carsdirect.com prices it is only $100 over invoice! The 2001's are only a few hundred under invoice. So sure you whould save about $1500 hundred right now but when it comes to resale the 2002's will be atleast $1500 more. So basiacaly I am trying to tell you to get a 2002 Max . They are a bit better every way if you ask me, although some will say the 00-01's are better looking. Either good luck with your new ride.
