It could have to do with your power steering. Which wheel?

i think its the drivers side front or rear. how do check it out if it is the steering. any other possibilites. i think something rubber is rubbing against something.

Well if it is the front drivers side it might be the steering. I really dont know how to fix it but you could check all the connections by the steering column. Also have some one turn your wheel and see if it makes a noise. My friend has the same thing going on in his Legend. Good luck.

Oohh..I hope it's your tires and not your alternator going south!

When my alternator started dying, it made a high pitched whining sound at idle, and the sound got louder as I revved the engine. Noise went away when I was up to cruising speed. A couple days later the alternator croaked.

If its coming from on of the tires, its a shifted belt. Only way to fix it is to replace it.

Need more info

Does it increase in pitch as you increase in speed? Does it go away when you put the car in nuetral?

sorry i havent replied

damn, for some reason i can only log on to this forum from one computer. this is so weird.
anyway,
my car is still making that whining noise. i took it to the dealer and they said that it was normal. guys, this can not be normal. the sound comes and goes. it goes away when i go over 25mph. and comes back when my speed decreases. its like eeeeeeeeeeeeeee(not that high pitched)eeee, stoping eee-eeeeeyuuh, stop. it is driving me crazy. oh yeah, it doesnt go away when the car is in nuetral, it comes at the certain speed i mentioned above.
thanks for the replies so far.

More clues please!

does it go away while braking? - check for low pads else hose down caliper assembly (when cold only!) to get rid of something stuck between pads and rotor

you could rotate tires... if it moves then it's the tires

A little first hand experience

You may want to check the brake covers while you're looking at things. I know one time I hit a stick, it was actually really small but I hit it at low speed so it may have created a weird angle and smashed into the brake cover. Anyhow, the cover got bent and was then rubbing the outer edge (circumference) of the brake. It was easily bent back into place by hand. It's a long shot, but you never know.

Hope this helps,
Jeff

Jahav is referring to the dust cover, or dust shield. This is the stamped sheet metal part immediately inboard of the rotor. If this part is bent it could be rubbing against the rotor.
