Frist 1000 mile oil change?
Frist 1000 mile oil change?
A buddy of mine is recommending that I change my oil now that I have hit 1000 miles on my 2001 Max. He claims that changing the oil now will flush out metal shavings in the new engine. Anyone ever hear of this?

you can if you want. But, with the latest engine manufacturing methods and stuff, I doubt you really need to. From what I hear, cars before used to come with a special break in oil for the explicit purpose of breaking the engine in and flushing these metal shavings or whatever out. It was supposed to be changed soon after the car was new. Now, I doubt that is the case anymore. I think you can go the recommended interval of 3750 miles safely and then change it with synthetic from then on. I am sure there are plenty of other opinions on this though....
