I need help with tweeter mounting.

I have a 98 GXE. I want to install some tweeters but I don't want to cut any holes. I want to know what is smarter or if any of this is even possible. I could .......

A. Buy the SE door skins from a junkyard and mount new tweeters behind the factory tweeter location. Do aftermarket tweeters even fit?

B. I understand that the pillars from the 95-96 SE/GLE, and the 95-99 I30 are upholstered and have tweeter locations in them. I could get those but, does the fabric match? And will aftermarket tweeters fit.

I really want to maintain a somewhat factory look.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You don't have to flush mount the tweeters. You can just stick them on with tape that should be provided, and run the wires somewhere out of view.

I would rather have them either in a factory location or out of sight. I really don't like to have tweeters sticking out like that. But thanks.

You should bridge-mount them over the mids in the lower doors and aim them. That will sound better if done correctly. And will look stock.

Sounds good, but can you think of any way to get the tweeters higher.
I used to have a honda (thank god its gone) and I flush mounted the tweeters in the doors and loved it. They stood out though. Guess thats why they got stolen.

I think you should just go ahead and cut the holes in the doors where you want them to be. If you are willing to buy some SE door pannels, might as well cut the holes, and if you don't like them, just buy some new panels. I'm sure if done right it will look and sound good. Or you can go the easy way and just get some coaxial speakers.

i just mounted some today.. in the black piece on the door to the right of the window on the drivers side.. i took the door off, then took that piece off, cut a hole, screwed in the tweeter, then ran a wire from that down to the speaker in lower part of the door.. they sound great, and theyre not obviuos at all, (the tweeters are black) gonna do the passenger side tomorrow, and maybe put something across it to disguise it somemore

I thought about that too.

Hey, is there enough room behind that panel to flush mount my tweeters?

yeah, theres a good bit of room behind there.. you can check by removing the door, then taking that piece off and seein if thats what you want to do.. i jsut got done putting in the other side.. it was very easy, total time 15 mins, and they sound gREat. i believe the best way to cut it is to drill lots of holes around the perimeter of the tweeter then take the drill bit around to finsih cutting it out.. my tweeters had a smaller circle then a bigger one that allows it to be mounted fairly flush.. looks good..

Put your tweeters in your air vents. When you want more "high end" sound adjust your air vents so you can direct the sound...

i thought about putting them in the vents, but then it wouldnt blow air, and also would be more difficult to wire...

I put my splits behind the trim where the factory speakers were. We bridged the tweeter over the mid and just aimed it to the drivers seat at ear height. I also replaced the speaker grill in the trim cause the factory one was horrid. You dont want the tweeters more thatn 4 inches away from the mid. Don't put in air vents!!
