Does anyone know how similar the undercarriages are on the 4th and 5th gens are?? Just wondering, b/c of the exhausts that are made for the 5th gen.
If a certain system can make a decent gain on a 5th, why not an even bigger one if it can fit on a 4th? I was thinking particularly of the HKS exhuast. Turbo magazine said it made an additional 4 or 5 more hp over the stock system. Imagine the boost you'd get on a 4th, if only it would fit!
And most exhausts are cat-back. Okay. Now the Y-pipe is pre-cat, right? I have no idea. You'd see a massive gain if you could combime these two ideas, IMHO. I just dunno if it'd work.

Well I think the reason there are more gains from the 5th gen is due to the fact that it breathes better in the higher rpm ranges. In the 4th gen, the VQ doesn't breath that well after say 5000rpm. Remember those numbers are all peak hp number,... nuever ever just look at the peak hp number. cause it's possible that you lose power everywhere else but that rpm.

In a NA car, in the 4th gen, the stock muffler/catback simply isn't that big of a restriction. Sure if you want every last hp, you can go for it... but otherwise, it's atmost a 2-3hp difference, atleast that's from my personal exprience.

4th Gen exhaust is ugly...

Here is what I'm thinking about doing....

Y pipe, B pipe, 5th gen exhaust....

This would work well because of teh variable back-pressure that the 5th gen exhaust gives + the 5th gen one look really cool!

(flame this if I'm crazy because it may be stupid) what do you guys think?
