Dents in my tranny gears!

I changed to Redline MT-90 in my '97 SE 5-spd with 64K miles last weekend. While checking the fit of the garden hose I planned to use to refill the tranny, I put my finger in the fill hole...hey I can feel a gear...hey I can see the gear...holy crap, there's little dents in my gears!!! Not on the meshing surface, but on the tops. WTF? Is this a sign something went seriously wrong sometime in the past? I had bearings replaced about 55K under warranty. The symptom was a leaky axle seal, turned out to be worn bearings. They didn't mention anything at that time. Anyone look at their gears?
