02 sensor bank 2, rear

Gents,
Re: 2001 SE AE. Just went through 6-pages of search and nothing on the removal of this 02 sensor, so it must just be me. Laying under the car last night it looks like I hardly have enough room to get the 02 tool on it. The sensor is screwed in verticaly from the top and there is no room to swing a ratchet or get a wrench on the end of the 02 tool. There is a heat shield right there that is in the way. The bolts are rusted and if I try to remove it it will certainly be scrap. How are you guys getting this one out?

So its bank 2 sensor 2. Hopefully someone who has actually done this can chime in on what they did. If i was trying to tackle it, i would read one of the how-to header install and just pick out what will or wont help you. You might have to remove a lot to get to it....crossmember, radiator fans then heat shields? Goodluck.

I'm attempting this very same task this weekend...I plan on using PB Blaster to get it loose then use 7/8" Offset Oxygen Sensor Wrench to get it out of there. With the PB Blaster you should be able to get the three screws loose on the heat shield and if needed the bolts on the Y-pipe (to give you more room). If all else fails and you get in the weeds just bring it to a local shop to have them break the seal for you.

Thanks guys. What I don't understand is...with 6 or more pages of search material for 02 sensors nothing was mention about changing this one. That leads me to believe that many may have thrown in the towel and had a pro do it. Jed, where did you find that offset 02 wrench? That may be the ticket.

you can pick up that offset 02 sensor tool at auto place or any other automotive centers like pep boys so you don't have to wait untill this thin arrives. The whole trick is to break it loose, after that its usually a swing in the park.

Follow Up:
Changed sensors Saturday. Used Walker sensors ($80 each). Fit was great. Tools required: Needed the socket tool and the crows foot tool. Went out and bought extra long (about 12") needle nose and diagonal cutters. These were great for cutting the old tie backs and installing the new ones.
Reset computer by disconnecting battery for about an hour. So far CES light off and car runs better and getting better fuel economy. Will I need to take it in for reprograming?

CCS2K1MAX: Thanks for sending that thread, great pics. Glad someone else felt my pain.

Thanks Guys!

Did you try a crow's foot ? You can get these from Sears.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the crow's foot?

You can use a 22mm open ended crescent wrench.
