Valve Cover Torque Spec (Search is not working)
Valve Cover Torque Spec (Search is not working)
I tried a search for the thread "Oil In spark plug chamber, some Help!!!" that thread was found doing a yahoo search, but it leads to "RSB install". This is the thread (I have is saved in my favorites).

Anywho, what I need is the specs for tightening the rear valve cover on a 2002 Maxima. I'm pretty sure the thread listed was the one that someone had pasted the specs in.

Hope this helps, i think the forum upgrade messed up the thread ID #.

Yup, thats it. Thanks.
I haven't reassembled yet but I had not gotten any RTV. Is this necessary? I did not see any places on the block that had leftover RTV when I removed the valve cover.

Mine is leaking into the rear far driver side sparkplug hole. There were no leaks on the outside of the valve cover.
Having never used RTV:
How thick of a bead?
Should it be continuous (if I stop, can I just overlay/get as close as possible to the last stop point)?
Should it go completely around the block?
Do you let it dry, or put the cover back on while the RTV is wet?
Any guides on this?

OK, got the bead on (following the directions on the tube). It was a little hairy to get around the passenger side and up the vertical parts of the manifold, but believe I got it.

Now I'm changing the spark plugs. The hole with the oil in it goes up to about to the top of the porcelain of the spark plug. I got out as much as I could with a suction device. Is it ok to dump that much oil into the cylinder? If I let it sit for 24 hours, will it run down the cylinder walls back to the pan?

What a day! I used a paper towel for about an hour and got just about all of it out. After replacing the plugs, I attempted to do the second set of torque specs for the valve cover (65-82 inch pds) initial tightening was 25 inch pds. All the bolts clicked on my torque wrench at 72 inch pds. I tried 82 inch pds and again got a click...on all of them. I assume the RTV setting up had something to do with this. The back of the pack claims "no retorque necessary", so I assume I am OK.
Put back all the harnesses, tubes, bolts, and covers. A lot like playing "Operation". I plan to let the car sit for 24 hrs to get a good cure on the RTV. I did start the car for 15 sec to make sure there were no CELs before putting the cover and SB back on. All went fine, no lights.
