Vibration in steering wheel and whining noise

Occurs up around 70mph. Comes and goes. Could be any combination of tire balance, CV's and axles. Anyone know for sure if it's axles or CV's if the tire balance is ok?

You might have a couple flat spots on your tire, or they could be unbalanced. Both of these are realy cheap to get checked out at your local tire shop. don't know about the cv though

I had a similar problem with mine and it was the alignment, and that in turn ate the tires

I would guess it's the tires. You can check the CV joints, well the boots anyway. Look to se if they are cracked, if they are you will most likley have grease everywhere in your wheelwell. If they are not cracked then the joints should be fine. The axles shouldn't be causing this. the only moving part on them is the CV joints.

Get the tires checked.

I've already been through the boot thing a couple of years ago. And yes, they did splatter the grease onto the wheels. What a mess! I'm really hoping it is just the tires because one has been unmounted to fix a flat recently and another needed a new valve stem. I just usually don't that lucky. I'll be getting them rebalanced shortly. We'll see what happens. Was curious if anyone had a similar problem and what it took to fix it. I'll post the results of the rebalancing and if it's still there.

yea I had a similar problem. But I knew it was my tire. It had a bubble in the tread If you took it off the car and rolled it you could tell it had a high spot. It was so bad that the steering wheel didn't just vibrate it moved. If I was going slow enough I could feel the whole car rock as it went over the bubble.

Teach me to never try to put 225/60's on a 6.5" rim again. Oh well they were free

I read that you went through the "boot thing". I was told I need need boots and maybe a new axle. Has anyone replaced these and know a descent price I should pay? Also how long do you think I can drive without getting this fixed

I'll see if I still have the receipt for the boots. I got both sides done at the dealer. The style on the 94's has no slot in it, so everything on the hub has to come off to slide off the boot. Takes a little extra labor from the ones that can be peeled off without disassembling everything. I wouldn't let it go for long. It will make a mess of the inside of your wheels and shredded boots allow dirt and crap to get into the CV's.

It was the tires. Got them balanced ealier in the week. Drove the car to the Woodbury Commons meet and it was smooth as a baby's butt. The CV's are making some whining noise, but the vibration in the steering wheel was the tires.
