Fog Light rewire problem...

I did the fog light rewire on craig's site and it worked but I have a few issues with the setup. First thing I noticed was that since I'm using the side corner light to close the circuit, my 1157's and my 194s, and the Fog lights are MUCH dimmer than before. Its almost as if the fog lights are draining too much current. Second issue is that I can't turn the fog lights off if the parking lights are on. The switch just doesnt work anymore. Am I connecting something incorrectly? Is it supposed to be this way? Im wondering if there is another way to rewire them so they would run brighter and be able to use the switch to turn them on and off even when the parking lights are on. Craig, jump in here anytime man! Thanx.

check your wiring, this should not happen
fog switch should still work fine and they should not be any dimmer

All you should be doing with the fog rewire is changing the "trigger" wire for the fog light relay. When the fog button is on, it provides ground for relay. Then, when the relay gets power (normally from the headlight power wire) it will connect a stronger voltage source to the foglights - it does not connect the wires that the rewire deals with. After the rewire, the corners should trigger the relay (if the switch is pushed in also). But it doesn't take that power wire to the foglights, it connects a better voltage source so it should not be any brighter or dimmmer than before.
check out my site in the how-to for some basic info about relays to see what I'm talking about (and also recheck your wiring )

good luck and post/email me if you have any more problems or questions

yeah, I realized that after I posted

that would explain the dim lights (lower voltage) and then they would be on regardless of the switch since the power would now be connected straight to the parking lights

check it out DaBox

A related question for Craig B…

C-B,

I used your instructions for the rear signal light rewire, and I noticed that when I switched the lights on the rear driver's side, that the wires for the bottom light (which was originally the brake light) were too short for me to be able to screw into its new home, so it's kinda hangin' in there for the moment. Do you have any suggestions as to what I can do to fix this before it becomes a problem (if it becomes a problem)? I like the way the lights look now, there's no dimming or anything. I just don't want that bulb to break because it's not secured to anything right now.

Thanks!

lengthen the wires
Some people have this problem, others dont. I dont know why some cars would and some wouldn't but oh well

Cut the wire that is too short, add a length of wire between it and simply connect both ends and you'll be fine. It should take you 2 minutes or so

good luck and let me know if you have any questions

It's as simple as that, huh? Thanks! Will do - I have some spare black wire in my toolbox. I'll let you know how it turns out

Sorry I forgot to reply to this post before, but DaNY and Craig, you were right, I routed the wire without cutting the main wire. It works well now...thank you for the info guys!
