Trunk lid arms?

i want to do away with the trunk "sway bars" or whatever they are called. im getting ready to put a sub box in and i want to get those guys out of the way. i want to put to cylinder acuators to open the trunk, much like the hood of the car uses.

any suggestions would be appreciated and where i could get a hold of the acuators.

thanks
Tmax

are you talkin about pop trunk, or do you just want it to lift up?

its been awhile since i looked at the trunk set-up (my max is in the shop), but iirc you're talking about the tension rods that go from side to side right? if so, the answer is yes?

it should work the same with some aftermarket hood struts if you can find a suitable size. i would go ahead and put actuators since you have to build brackets anyways and you already have power running to the trunk. fyi mounting amps to boxes isnt a great idea.

struts ... I believe is the poper term ... but we all know what we are talkin about here.

One of the members here has done this ... and it looked GOOD! I would also like to do this ... the tension rods are always in the way of anything I want to fit on top of my sub box. I am planning (when I get TIME) to pull the rods and replace them with 2 struts (1 per side) to hold the lid open. Not going to have it "pop" up .. just hold the lid up so it doesn't fall on my head.

any parts store will have them .... plan on around $20 - 30 total. If by chance you buy the ones for the hood (replacements) and they come with the little ***** ... that hook into the fender / hood - I'll buy them from you in a heart beat!

I am planning on measuring how long I'll need them (depends on where you mount them) and then just going and finding something close at Orielly or Auto Zone. I bought replacements for my hood ... can NOT get the ball off the stock strut so ... I still use my "chunkOwood" in the mean time. lol

You may have to do a bit of "American engineering" to get it all done, but it is way doable. Cheers!

2AZN2DMAX - THANK YOU!

That is the pic I was looking for. In fact, I started another thread (that can be canned) asking for just this picture. That looks clean! We should get a mod (KEVLO) to sticky this maybe.

Did your replacement struts not come with *****? Strange.

Not sure which struts you bought for your hood. I replaced mine with the brand carried by AutoZone (might-lift? something like that), and I thought at first that the struts would pop-off of the ***** mounted on the hood and fender. After some pushing and pounding I realized that the ball is integral to the stock struts, and you have to unscrew them from the hood/fender and use the ***** that came with the new strut.

Heh heh, I said *****.

well ... I got my struts from Orielly auto .... and no *****! (well .. I am a guy and I have a set, but not an additional set for the hood too) lol I have tried beating and smacking and pounding the crap outta the OEM ones ... to no avail. Oh well ... guess it's wood above ***** in this case! HA thhheheheheheeh

Does the trunk pop open fully when using the remote/interior button? Just curious because my CF trunk flies open to the point where it will probably break off with the springs in there so I just removed them.

No my set-up is set to not pop all the way open when you pop the trunk. It could though if you mounted the strut lower on the back wall. Also if you are worried about that you can just do one strut instead of two.

if you have a chance can you take measurements (mouting point to point) compressed and extended. looks too easy. might have to pop trunk on em.

*edit* nm. i did not know yours didn't open completely.
