No one cares but I'm back
Well last time I was here was November 06...I gave my 93 Max to my bro and the transmission gave out on him 2 months later (I swear if i was driving it, it would have lasted another year haha) at 240*** miles on the tranny...well i'm getting it back and im gonna replace the transmission, struts/springs, and hopefully the exhaust...wish me luck...glad to be back on this forum...i had a 7th gen civic, well i still do but i hate the honda forums...
i agree with everybody on the forum saying that it is a cut above the rest. i am new but before i joined i read allot on this forum and was very impressed . keep it up. i plan on hanging on to both of my fourth gen's and learning allot from everybody here.
Another option would be swapping in a ready to go remanufactured unit,or a used unit from a salvage yard<-- be cautious of this avenue though,as you may very well be in the same boat again in 5-10 thousand miles with a used unit..
and the final solution would be to swap in a manual transmission, but this solution would be very expensive if you have a shop do the labor on it.
Transmission rebuilds prices vary by the region of the country you live in,but a rough estimate would be in the $1000-$1500 range..

thanks for all your feedback by the way
Well,in the end remanufactured/vs./rebuilding your current trans would be the same thing. The only difference with a reman unit is your downtime would be a fraction of what it would be vs. waiting on a transmission shop to rebuild your existing transmission.
well thanks again...aight, next subject...struts....i saw the kyb deal in the Group deal forum...thumbs up or down? i think im gonna go eibachs for springs, but im not sure yet...but yea, the deal, good?
i was on the Camry forums looking for mod info for my brother's 93, and they didn't even have their stuff separated by generation. I couldn't find anything. I went there about 3 times and gave up.
yeah seriously I can't believe that any upstart car forum site wouldn't use us as the standard of excellence. I mean someone is always going to flame the noobtards (as i was just a few months ago) but most people are very helpful, funny, and dedicated to their rides
Koni struts are by far the best mate for eibach or any other aftermarket spring out there for these cars.,but they are kinda pricey(around $500)
I personally have a tokico struts mated with B&G springs (1.6 inch drop) these two together provide a pretty decent ride for a progressive drop spring.,though a little on the stiff side.
If you don't want to pay the price for koni's,then eibach/w tokico would be a good match imo.
I JUST did a transmission swap for about $1100...and thats for a VE swap into a GXE. Price includes axles, linkage, pedals, replacing broken parts and everything. I bought the parts from nismosleeper but many of the parts came broken, or missing. All together a hub was scored beyond use from a bad bearing, the support rod was bent terribly, there wasn't all the trans mounts, the shifter mounting assembly was missing, the wrong axle was sent, and the position sensor was also broken, and other stuff I can't remember at the moment...so that $1100 includes replacing all those parts and getting nuts and bolts and things. I ended up filing a paypal dispute, and he said he'd refund some money for the broken parts, but ended up never sending the cash. Turns out there's nothing I can do now......
oh sorry, I had to rant about that and didn't feel like making a dedicated post just to knock on nismosleeper. I'm still a little rough on it though.... Basically what I'm saying is just get a parts car if you're doing a trans swap....if you're keeping it as an auto, then any junkyard trans should be just fine and is pretty easy to replace. Just look for a car that was hit...if it's in good shape body-wise than you know either the transmission or the engine went. Why else would it be there?

yours was body color trunk finisher or red taillight-lens-style trunk finisher?

This place is indeed the greatest!!! I think its the people on here and their love and dedication towards their car(s) and also towards helping other people who also love their car(s)! So basically its a brotherhood!!!
word...haha...thanks for the feed back to all of you...cant wait to get back into the maxima...ive missed it for too long....the civic ride was/is nothing compared to the max...
Eibachs are a good choice for springs, but i do not have any experience with kyb's personally,I have heard they are kinda soft though.

Actually,i would recommend going with a eibach/tokico setup, eibachs are better all the way around from a comfort/performance standpoint. Just not much of a drop with eibach(about 1 inch)

do you think that .6 inches will make much of a difference in terms of how "good" it looks?
