Synthetic MT fluid in the VE?
Synthetic MT fluid in the VE?
I was at Schucks today to get some MT fluid for when i reinstall the tranny, and i ended up getting Mobile 1 Synthetic 75-90W gear oil. Before i put it in i just want to make sure it is ok to use that in the VE tranny or should i go back and get conventional oil.
The reason i got the Synthetic in the first place is because this car is my track car so i wanna preserve the transmission as long as possible with this 6 puck clutch that is going in.
Thanks
Alex

Shouldn't be an issue unless you've got some unresolved leaks, then they might get worse. Otherwise, I'd recommend it! I use Redline myself, but it's only preference.....well, and the size of your wallet I guess.
Alex V said something in the API GL-5 oil eats our syncro's extremely fast, Is this true? Because if it is then the Redline you are using should be eating at your tranny....

pick up some Redline lightweight shockproof.
best stuff I've put in the tranny.
don't worry much about the gl-5 or gl-4 rating. if the tranny is going to go south, it's going to go no matter what fluid you're putting in it.

I would probably get GL-4, just to be safe. That's what I have done with mine. I used amsoil both trannies. The ISB conked out in my first one. That is usually the problem with VE trannies, not the syncros.
My newer tranny is a lot louder (been that way since I first installed it), but it has held up for several years now. I still have the first one and I will have it fixed if I have a problem with the one in my car now.
I used synthetic in my VE-5 (can't remember the weight, but it's the recommended weight) and i'm having no problems.....other than my shifter input seal leaking just a LITTLE bit more, but not enough to worry about.
It does seem to be shifting smoother and easier these days....if that helps. ;x

GL-5 contains sulfer, which will definetally eat the brass components of the transmission. For proof, just look online for what metals sulfer will corrode and brass will surely be on the list. More proof? Sulfer, a component of acid rain, will turn a copper statue green in no time. Copper is also a component of brass. In other words, get the Redline MT-90. Thats the best stuff you can buy and will last the longest. With our weak transmissions, it's important to keep them living as long as possible with a good gear lube. Just my 2 cents though.
