Road noise reduction - anyone done it?

I've decided I'd like to make my 2k SE a little quieter for that long drive to work and back.. I have found a couple of places that sell mastic at reasonable prices, but I'm not sure what areas will give the biggest benefit. My instinct says door panels, but other people seem to favor the trunk.

Was wondering if anyone else has had much experience trying this, and what results they had gotten.

Take the trunk carpeting out and along the rear fenders there is alot of area tha is uninsulated. The sound from the trunk travels readily through the rear dash, too. Personally I think the most benificial place to insulate would be the whole floor, though I haven't been able to get to that yet. Hesitant because getting the seats and lower moldings to fit with ease afterwards is gonna be a PIA. Good luck!

you can use the same asphalt roofing stuff from Home Depot. it's the same stuff as Dynamat and Mastic, so i've heard... they were talking about this in the GB forum.

i've been reading a lot on the www.sounddomain.com forums, and they have said that "undercoating" is good, i guess it's like a rubber coating that you spray on. it comes in a can. if you need more info you can go search or let me know and i'll go.

Road Noise

My 2KSE does not have Bose audio. I was surprized to discover they did not soundproof the subwoofer hole in rear deck. Covering that hole reduced the road noise a lot, especially in the rear seat area.

Lemme know if you want to see the pictures.

If it's something simple, I wouldn't mind a little how-to advice...

Another hole (don't know why it's there). I stuffed a lot of soft foam (white) in the space between rear dash and trunk "ceiling" and then used harder foam (blue) to keep it in place. Definitely quiter now.

I usually don't use rear seat in my car thou

go to the "audio and electronics" section of this forum, a few people there are very knowledgable about sound deadening.. sweetsound2001, whitemax, turdfurgeson to name a few. they've all recommended a brand called rammat to me, however i can't get a hold of the guy that sells the stuff.. also a product called brown bread was brought up a few times on a car audio forum i used to participate in.. then there's also lowe's peel and seel. it's basically roofing material.. another method of sound deadening is using (very carefully) expansion foam. inject it in the rocker panels and cavities where it would be difficult to apply the mastics on..
