Anyone with Carfax able to check on a vehicle?

I sold my 97 Miata and am in the process of looking for a more practical daily driver (read: trunk & back seat). I'm looking at a 95 Maxima in NJ and wanted to check the history.

VIN is X

TIA

Carfax gets pretty pissed off at this type of thing. Anyone running that vin at this point run's the risk of having their carfax account closed, at the very least. This type of thing could also potentially get the Maxima forums in trouble.

"When agreeing to your Carfax service, part of the terms and conditions of your contract state that you will not solicit nor charge for running Carfax reports. It is a single user license."

So basically I say.... IBTL or b4 this thread is deleted.....which is coming soon

If someone can run it for Phoung and then PM it to him, that would be fine. It's when you start to charge for use of your account that it becomes wrong, IMHO....

what are you guys saying its not legal to run carfaxes on multiple cars??? we do it all the time at work, we run a carfax on every vehicle that comes it before we sell it.

or are you saying its not right to charge people to run their car and pocket the money???

A fellow Maxima.org member ran the report and the car checks out ok.

Nothing will replace the OG crew. Years ago I would've had 5 people offer to run the VIN in the first hour. The 06s & 07s are too busy crying about the legality issues and didn't even read the fine print:
you will not solicit nor charge for running Carfax reports

Funny how you quoted what I posted saying that I didn't read the fine print, when you were the one who didn't read it good enough yourself. Let's give it another look eh? "part of the terms and conditions of your contract state that you will not solicit nor charge for running Carfax reports. It is a single user license." What does that mean? Oh, well that means you can't run vins for other people, that's what that means. Never said anything about charging.

Years ago was different. Carfax didn't seem to catch on for a while to the fact that they were losing money because people would get an account, and then post "free carfax" on message boards using it to run vins for others. Asking for a free check from someone else is no different.

Congrats on being an "OG", I couldn't care less.

T, the "07 crew"

You could be pulling that from a different section of their site but if you go here: http://www.carfax.com/cfm/legal_disclaimer.cfm

there is no mention of a single user license (section 2, restriction on use)

Those are just the terms and conditions of the website itself. That has nothing to do with what you agree to when you sign up for an account.

jeez tvis, you sound like you work for carfax. why do you care if someone asks for one vin from someone else? if you dont want to help out then dont.
maybe if carfax didnt charge 20 bucks for a single lookup people wouldnt do this.

I would gladly pay 3-5 dollars for a vin lookup but 20 is rediculous

agreed. rediculous amount charged for 1 report! it's not even 20, it's 25 now.

I wouldn't rely on Carfax for anything. I am sure they do well and provide a great service but nothing compares to physically checking a vehicle out or using a mechanic to do it.

I look at autotrader and they have what they say are free Carfax checks, you click on the link and the history says 12 notations or something to that effect then you have to buy their service to see what they meant. No thanks.

carfax is ****ing bogus. they make it sound like you are stupid if you dont spend 25 or 30 bux to check the history of your car when a large portion of all accidents are not with other cars, and can be hid easily. not to mention flood damages...which are RARELY reported.

it is so easily flawed.

someone drives into a wall, takes it to sammy the mechanic to repair it and there is NO EVIDENCE of an accident.

not to mention, they charge you 25 per report and 30 for a month of unlimited reports? WTF is that ****? what moron is gonna pay 25 to use it once when thy could pay 30 for a month....its like they are gloating about the overtly inflated price of one of these reports. why would one cost them 25 when they could do hundreds for 30?

i just went to my local nissan dealership and asked them nicely to run a couple of VINs for me......and it worked...

id rather burn my money than give it to CARFAX

I like to use it to see how many times the car is bought & sold. It's good seeing a 1 or 2 owner vehicle. Not so good when it's been passed around 5+ times.

hmmm you could probably make a profit (advertising) off a site like that since guys wouldn't really care what they post personal stuff about their ex

just wondering what type of legality issues there would be lol
