I'm thinking of making an offer on a 92 SE auto to fix and sell for a tidy profit. I'm not even sure about it being a SE, the body looks like it in every way but the wheels are from a GXE.

I know what KBB will say, but what have any of you actually gotten or paid for one of these in the last year or two? I'm trying to figure out if it will be worth the hassle, and I miss having something to work on after having fixed up my car.

 

I bought my 1993 SE auto a year ago this January for $2200 + gas for about 80 miles away. I've had little problems with it here and there but I've pretty much worked out all of the kinks. I LOVE the car though. As far as buying to make a profit, I'm not sure I would have invested, but I had my heart set on having one.

 

This one doesnt run, so it would be a cheap purchase. Not sure whats wrong though, but I plan to find out. If it needs a major parts investment, as opposed to my labor, I'll probably back off.

 

Find out what's wrong with it and get back to us...

the scrap yard is giving me $200 for a 94 GA that doesn't run, and has a swimming pool inside.

anyhow... if it's a GXE $200 or so, if it's an SE with a good leather interior and a perfect exterior $500

 

Exterior is not perfect, has a minor dent in rear pass-side quarter panel, and driver door dent.

Has leather, but status unknown, I specifically asked about it though.

Still waiting to hear back from the seller, I sent an email just before posting. I'll let yall know once I get more info.

i bought a 95 maxima se that was im my friend girlfriend back yard for a $1000 cash it had no problem when i bought it but it had 214Ks on it it fast though and was worth every penny

If it's an SE, it will have black mirrors, no chrome trim, etc.

A lot of people slap GXE wheels on SEs because they are cheap and available.

It really depends on what is wrong with the car. If it is serious engine problem (busted VTCs, broken chain, etc) or a bad tranny, you will probably want to pass on it, unless it's in great shape. It's hard to find a good VE engine or tranny for cheap. Plus, the resale value on these is getting worse and worse.

 

i bought my 92 ve auto for $200.
i belive all the car needs is an injector.
even though i've only had it for about 2 months i do alot of hard driving.
and the car gives no trouble.

if the car does'nt start a way to get it to start is hold the gas pedal all the way down or 1/2 way down.
still does'nt start then it's a possible chance it's either the fuel pump or cam sensor.
if there's no engine problems.

 

Flooring the gas while trying to start keeps fuel from going into the cylinders right?

 

Yes,the ecu will cut off injector pulse at WOT starts.

 

yea and the funny thing is the nissan manual even suggests you do this.
but only time my car has this problem is when she's been driven for awhile shut her off for 5 minutes or less.

but this could be because one of the injectors are leaking.

 

I've bought fixed and sold three SEs in the past year and a half. Black on black 91 auto, black on black 92 5 speed (both leather), and a light blue on gray tweed 92 auto. Between all three I netted $3,500 in profit. I replaced injectors on the two black ones and only cleaned the interior of the blue one. As far as buying and selling a GXE, it is going to be harder to find buyers. Not saying that if you get it for $500, clean it up and fix problems you won't make money, you'll just probably make less and it will be more painstaking to find someone who wants it.

 

I really think its an SE. Its just too much hassle to change window trim, mirrors, rear lights, and add a spoiler if the dealer hadnt, so I dont see anyone realistically doing that to a GXE.

"yes it overheated i think because the radiator cap was bad im guessing, it threw antrifreeze on the motor when it stopped working, i tried to turn the motor myself and it wont budge. interior is decent, driver seat is torn as usual, but the rest are ok. i have no
idea what model it is, but its leather interior, power windows and locks, sunroof, spoiler, bose audio. and the mileage on the car is 145k."

I'll try to go look at it in the next few days, might make a low offer.

Looked at it today. The body was in very bad shape, not worth bothering with.

 

I bought a 93 maxima Se for 3,000 with 136,000 miles, about 6 months ago. It runs pretty well except that when ideling it is ver choppy and when accelerating it is choppy sometimes. I dont know why this is can anybody give me some suggestions?

 

what has been done to the car?
tuneup, plugs, etc??

 

The ignition coils are probably to blame for this issue. You can check them for cracks.

Do you know where to find them? I'm just not sure what your car experience is...

 

Around the country the prices for Maxima's are cheaper than here in the Southern California area. Even at the local pick your part it's hard to find a bargain. On the other hand, 3rd generations are all over the place on the roads here and we don't have to deal with rust.

 

I bought a 92 max SE for 200 with a blown motor. Since i had a motor to exchange it was no problem. But it depends how much you factor in. Buying little screws, changing the oil, antifreeze. I expected to make a profit but who knows what else you can encounter. Mine may not give me as much as a profit as i thought just because i factored in taxes, gas to get the car, but also i can across a transmission problem. If it wasnt for that i'd have the car done now. All depends on your time, commitment, and extra money
