* Vacuumed the car
* Had the car door opened after I back up in the drive way - So lights I think stayed on while I vacuumed - Took me 10 minutes (TOPS) - I Usually do this twice a week about
* When I finished I was going to put my car in the back in the garage and it would not start
* Lights are able to go on , but when I turn them off, there is a thump
* Several clicks when I fire her up
* Horn is still loud and clear during key fob lock
* Before I take the battery out, do you guys think this is just a weak battery or something else?
- Video on top link -
thanks in advance

Sounds like a dead battery, check for dirty terminals

If you have a Auto Zone in your area have them test it out for you. They might be able to give it a full charge. That happened with my wife's car. My car I had to get a new battery.

I just had this problem, and I made a thread about it. I took my car out to advanced auto parts. They put my battery in a little box tester charger and basically the unit takes about 60 seconds to first test the battery and IF the battery passes that test it then charges it, So at that point you will know. I just finished installing a optima not even 2 hrs ago. I had the same clicking issue and my max was a pain in the *** to start I had two cars and a portable charging unit connected to that battery to get it to start up so I could drive home. So id say DONT delay it till its completely done, because then you will have to do what I did. Pull out the battery and take it to get installed and since advanced auto parts does the whole installation free if you purchase from them.

thanks for all the replies guys so far. I guess it was the battery, got it jumped with my old S10 and she ran on the first crank. In the meanwhile I went to wall mart and got those terminal cleaner as the ends has a bit of corrosion build up on them.

I hope to god it's going to start in the morning, or else I am toast (work )

I just happened to browse the other thread about batteries. I like the looks of those optimas. But dang, 160 bones for a battery? yacccks. Is it worth it? I do not have any extra audio devices in my car. No extra anything for that matter.

Or you can economize and get a 7 or 8 year battery at Auto Zone for around $75 or $80. I'vd had no trouble with the one I got at Auto Zone, and it is nice to have the nationwide warranty. There are Auto Zones everywhere I go.

When you try to start the car and you hear the clicking sound, it means the starter is not getting enough power from the battery to turn the motor over.

This could be caused by:

1 - Excessively draining the battery by drawing juice while the engine is not running. This requires a jump start (and less battery abuse in the future).

2 - Corroded battery terminals hindering the charging of the battery or hindering getting full power from the battery when needed to start the motor. Good cleaning of terminal posts fixes this.

3 - A problem with the battery which prevents taking a full charge, or prevents the battery from holding a full charge. This requires a new battery.

Just a quick question concerning headlight setting. I have mine on Auto. It was almost dusk so when I was vacuuming the car, the lights went on, when I turned off the car, the lights remained on because I had the doors open.

So if I leave the door open, the lights will remain on after I turn off engine??

I am guessing this is the only reason why this car did this today.

Lights will stay on for whatever preset value you have it at. Ie. I have mine set to 30 seconds, so they will stay on for 30 seconds after i shut the car off. I have navi and I know i can change the settings thru thier, pretty sure you can change this setting on non navi maximas as well.

u can change that in your personal settings. i have set to turn off with door close. (in the How To sticky)
and yes the headlights will drain the battery a lot quicker. but if u jumped it and ran it long enough to recharge. if you still have a problem, then it's the battery.
