Rattling engine noise? Is something loose?

Hi,

I hope this question hasn't been asked/answered already. I've been noticing a noise coming from my car recently. It sounds like a rattling/hissing sound that is noticeable at around 3-4K rpm (kinda like a loose nut or screw in the engine). It does bother me, but i have been reluctant to take it to the dealer as i switched off the flat air filter with a cone K&N filter and they might blame me for it. The noise is audible at 3-4K despite which gear i am in. anyone experience the same thing? Thanks

Wow, thanks guys!
I'll bring my car into the dealer soon, hopefully that will solve the problem.

Alright!

Thanks for the help. I brought it in and indeed it was the bent heat shield rubbing against something, creating that noise. That's all solved, but now my stinking SES light is on. i reset the ECU, and it came on again! Crappers. . another trip to the dealership .. . . i can make a book with all the invoices i have. My car was under warranty . . dunno if they charge if its out though. . .

I got the same issue with the heatshield rattling. 1st trip: they replaced the cracked bracket, didn't eliminate the noise. 2nd trip: they clamped up the heatshield, that eliminated the noise but then the SES light came on. 3rd trip: they replaced the CAT. It's all in the TSB. The 3rd trip was over the 36KMiles mark. But since it was an existing condition, they didn't charge me a thing. All has been good so far after 20KMiles.
