Headlight Bulb (non-HID) replacement

Hey guys,

My front right headlight just went out and my warranty just passed. The dealer is asking for $90 for the bulb and $50 for install. I'm thinking if I can just put in a 9005 bulb instead of the 9012 bulb. Would that work?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Dont think a 9005 bulb will work. Ive read I think it would be a 9006 and tabs need to be trimed. Also said that the bumper needs to be removed. Ive never done it so dont know.

Yes the bumper has to come off (although someone said they watched their mechanic do it with no problem through the engine bay, not sure how) Might as well upgrade a bit while you are at it, you can get silverstars for cheaper (a pair even) and do the work yourself!! It would be almost $100 you can spend on x-mas gifts!!!

I guess it depends on the quality of the kit and what your getting. Have you checked the gd section? There is one going for $160.

Does anyone know if there is an actual HID kit for the Max?

Also... where can we get some LED bulbs for the license plate? I bought 2 pairs and installed one but they are not as bright; but thats what I get from buying from ebay.

Is this the same procedure for the Xenon bulb replacements? Through the wheel well?

the 9012 HIR's are suppose to be a bit brighter than your standard halogen bulbs. the reflective coating around the 9012 glass reflects UV heat back onto the filament making it burn brighter.

so IMO getting regular 9006's to replace the 9012 is a downgrade. I would just get get a 9006 HID kit from the sponsers here on the forum. I changed mine out last year. I had to drop the front bumper to get to the headlights. It was a relatively easy upgrade.

that price is rediculous. I bought a new pair of 9012's from parts at nissan and it cost $14 for the pair. not sure what they are trying to pull there but I would ask around or look online. the nissan part # is 26296-9B913. I found these sites for you not what I paid but half what you were quoted. http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...&siteid=214027 and http://www.nissanparts.cc/cart/?pn=26296-9B913+++++ and http://www.courtesyparts.com/betasit...-p-311303.html well that's all I could find for ya at the moment good luck.

would you have to drop the bumper cover to just replace to fog lights or can you just remove the wheel well liners?

have any of you guys done this during this cooold cooold winter???

I was in the process of twisting the bulb out up and to the right to unlock it from the housing and the piece that clips onto the projector itself cracked. ( the piece that clips on from the top and the bottom. I was just thinking that it was too cold that it just snapped.

I tried repairing it with superglue and tape and it was a no go. I went to the dealer to try and order that piece, they said you would have to order the whole headlight. That is bs. But what do you expect from the dealer.

If anyone has gone through this could you throw some help this way? thanks.

ah gosh wtf. Parts guys at dealers are usually stupid anyway. I'm gonna call another dealer just in case. Do you know what the part is called or have the part number off hand? If you do that would help me out tons. Thanks man. Did you have any tricks putting it on or taking it off? Cuz when i took them off they cracked off like nothing.

yea the dealership guys are retarded lol. the part number that I got on the receipt is 26023 - ZK00A - so ring reta is what its called. When ur putting it on, make sure you clip the bottom on first. and when I was putting in the bulb it broke the two pieces that clip on to the back too. Just be gentle with the piece when putting it on and you should be fine. hope this helped you out!

quick question guys.
One of mine on the passenger side is out. I assume the low beam is the one on the outer part...the bigger circle on the outer side. True?

Also when I went to one store, they said 9006 would work, now I call pep boys and they tell me their computer says H13 is the original one, which translates to 9008 actually....so which one fits?
9008 and 9006 are totally different animal, one has a 90 degree angle different prongs.ect.

When they say cool blue, is that the kind that actually looks blueish in the headlight? I like those, i could care less about how bright it is, but I want them to look blue.

What should I get?

Upgrade Help...

04 SE 6spd 18 but no xeons or fog lights there is a switch for fog lights but don't work as far as for the halogens I need xeons. Whats the best solution to upgrade ? maybe the foglights just need bulbs I am not sure? Do the factory xeons look better than aftermarket ? Need Help , Most likely would be doing this myself so any help is greatfull.

I have the normal halogens bulbs and I wanna upgrade to Hids. What's the best out there to upgrade to hids?? and is this something I can do myself?

and about the foglights there is a option on the light switch to turn them on but they don't?: it might be a simple process of just putting bulbs but I don't know?

your fog bulbs are probably just blown. They tend to get hot and blow fast. the same thing happened to me

The Bulb is a 9012. Although a 9006 or 9005 will fit, but none of them are as bright as the 9012.

does anyone know the bulb for the fog light ? this is the third bulb in the cluster with the high and low beam lights. Does the 2004 SL also use a 9012 bulb for the high beam. the low beams are the Xenon bulbs.

I will bump this thread because I replaced mine on my own and to be honest when I read several threads, I never got a really clear answer.

So, for low beam a 9006 type bulb will fit, It was a 90 degree angle and it fits perfectly.

If you opt to buy a cheapo $10 sylvania 9006 type bulb, it won't be as bright as the original oem halogen, but not that that visible. If it bothers you, change both out to match, that's what I did. I Bought a two pack for 20 bucks.

there is a sylvania ultra vision package of two for 50 bucks, that one IS as bright.

Another route is the toshiba 9012 bulb online and this will be as bright as your oem as well. Those are 30 something a piece so you're looking at 70bucks + shipping

You do not have to take the bumper. All you have to do is unscrew the FRONT part of the wheel splash guard. DOn't take it all off, it is not necessary. All you have to do is unscrew the front part until you have it enough to bend it out to access the bulb. It's flimsy and plastic so you can do that.

Ok once you do that there is a plastic round cap (looks like a big bottle cap) that is very sensitive and WILL break if you're not careful. I broke mine because the bulb was so hard to twist off that when I used some force, I ended up breaking the lip of the cap...so good luck with that

Even if you take off the wheel splash guard it is a pain in the a$$ to have access to it.

Verdict is ...take it to Pep boys b/c they charge you 17 dollars plus tax to do it. Money welllllll worth it without the risk of breaking that plastic part.
