my key broke

The part in which my keychain goes into my key is broken. Not the actual metal part itself, but sometimes my keychain falls out and i get scared that i lost me key, but it always ends up in my pocket. Any way to do a quick fix? Super glue?

Had the same thing happen to me. Only fix it to keep it the way it is or go to the dealer.

yah... You got a 99... Too bad u have to get that type of key... As soon as I saw ur username and key broken... I was like.. hmm looks like he has a 99 with the chip... It kinda sucks cause I heard they ant cheap. If I were u if the key is fine. I would ask someone or shop if they can just tac weld or braze the piece for you so that you can use the loop. IT would be much cheaper doing this either way you look at it.

Drill a hole in the top part of the key, right at the beginning of the Nissan Hamburger logo. Sand down the two sides where the key loop used to be and call it a day. My key still is good *knock on wood* but I've seen other people with '99s do the same thing.

When I got my car from the dealership that part of my key was already borken off. The previous owner just drilled a hole through the side of the key that dosent have the transponder in it and put the keychain through that. It works just fine until you can afford a new key. Personally I will be taking my key and putting it on the inside of the plastic molding next to the ignition so I can get normal keys made soon. Saves me money. Eather that or just fork out the big bucks!

^^^ Dont you hate it when people post what your going to say when your typing it!

You need to take it to the dealership and have them program it. They usually charge about 1 hour labor ($80 or so). If you are going to go that route, I would just cough up the money and buy an OEM key...

I think it is the least amount that they will charge you for. When I first got my car (only came with one key) I called the dealership and they quoted me $168 for parts plus labor to program it.

It can't be that hard to program the key can it? The dealer wanted $110 to program my dad's old F150 PATS key with the chip in it, charging $80 for an hour labor and $30 for he key. After searching a lot, you can just buy the key unprogrammed, (From them, or online) then program it yourself. It ends up being a task something like this:

Put New PATS key in ignition, turn to start
Lock Doors three times, Turn key to off position
Turn headlights on, turn key forward to start and hold for three seconds then turn key back and take out.

etc.etc.etc.

It wasn't hard if you have directions and it works perfect, I'd suggest just searching on how to program one.

Also, once you find out how to program the key there is all sorts of things you can do, his truck used to always lock the doors when you put it in drive, that can be disabled, it also used to have auto DRL's, can be disabled, the radio not turning off until you open the door, can be disabled.... etc.etc.

go to marlboro nissan and get it done. you're better off either getting a new one or putting a hole in it.

id rather not spend money on a KEY. But ill try the superglue first, maybe that'll block the crack, be a quick fix. Ill try it out.
