Mounting engine to stand

I have the harbor freight engine stand and can not figure out how to attach it to my engine. Do I need extra long bolts to attach to the stand or can I use the transmission to engine bolts? They just don't seem long enough.

Thanks, Matt

You need longer bolts. The ones that came off of the car are not long enough to use with that stand. I speak from experience.

the transmission bolts will work if they are long enough, depends on the design of the stand. I was able to use trans bolts on mine.

Using an engine stand from Harbor freight, I think I only got 1 bolt to thread on by 2-3 threads, definetly not enought to hold. Since it was a Sunday night when I was pulling my engine and everything was closed, I busted out the ol' cutting wheel and took about 1/2" or so off of all the lugs on my stand. I had some extra bolts from another engine project that were the same thread, and managed to get it bolted on that way. I couldn't entirely recommend hacking up your stand though, it made it a PITA to get to the rear main seal, and may have issues with future engines, but I had to get the engine hoist back in the morning and didn't have time to mess around.
