I was wondering if I should replace the injectors since I have 128k on a 1995 max? The car seems to be running fine, but I wonder if I am missing out by having old injectors. Also, where is the best place to buy them and what brand should I get?

I have never heard of anyone having to replace the fuel injectors. At 128k, your vehicle is jjust getting broken in.

You might want to consider periodically using a fuel injector cleaner. At your mileage I would go with BG44K which is stronger than most. Subsequently, I would consider Gumout Regane and Chevron Techron in that order every 2nd oil change.

 

Fp60 and Lc20. they are about 30 bux a gallon off amazon.

 

155000 On mine and have only replaced a coil pack. Just keep them clean as stated above and you will do fine. Usually you only replace them when your having noticeable problems and it can be traced to the injectors. Things like Fuel leaks around the gaskets, which also isn't always just the injectors fault but the failing part is on the injector assembly.

I dont think u should replace them unless you are noticing some problems other than that, use some injector cleaner every once in a while.

 

Just a rough calculation: 128K / 25 MPH * 60 min/hr * 2000 RPM = 600,000,000+ revolutions on the engine. That is a huge number.

But I second the others that these thing don't need to be changed unless you are running into problems.

I had an old GM 2.8L and it ran into driveability problems at 150K. I thought the injectors were at fault but it turn out to be the EGR controller.

 

FP 60 is a fuel additive and LC 20 is an oil additive.

 

I replaced mine at 180K. Did it while I had the manifold off fixing a spark tube and replacing the Knock sensor. The pental caps on the end where disintegrated, the ends all gunked up. It runs much better now. Expensive buggers. I run some additive in each tank of gas now.

What does that plastic pental cap do anyway?

Dont' bother. Injector cleaner is as far as I recommend anyone goes.

I got a diagnostic done to my car and I need a new fuel injector. I am a car novice. Is it better to get new versus reman? Also, what brand is the best. I have a 1995 max. Thanks

 

You can replace the rear ones when you do an 00VI... . Haha...in all seriousness tho, I wouldn't change them unless you are misfiring or having other fuel related problems.

 

i would not bother replacing the injectors unless there is something wrong. Get yourself a good injector cleaner...3M fuel system cleaner for example. Doing hte front 3 injectors arent bad but the rear 3 are a pain.

 

there is no need to unless they are sticking. Just use high quality gas and you will be ok.

 

Exactly what did this diagnosis entail?

 

the diagnostic was for the check engine light. According to the invoice, there was multi cyl misfire [PO300]. The tech is recommending 1 fuel injector, 1 coil pack, plenium and valve cover gaskets there is some oil leaking.

 

I recommend just replace the coil packs and take it from there. What year is your car? If it is a 99, change ‘em all. The plenum gasket he is referring to is probably the UIM gasket, very easy to change, and you could do it at the same time you change the coils, 2.5 hour job tops even for a novice.

 

what's the UIM gasket???

 

I would get strictly oem parts everything else mostly seems to be junk

no offense....but i know tons of people who have had fuel injector problems....in my opinion it seems to be one of the flaws in our engine. i wouldnt replace them all until you need to...i did one of mine and it was $100 per injector...but yeah, like everyone else has said...just run some cleaner through them from time to time and replace them as they go out. i myself use seafoam.

Mine looked like this at 180K, so I just replaced them. Ran like new after replacement and I use lucas in just about every tank now.

 

Hello, My Maxima 1995 has 175K. Unfortunately my injectors are shot and they are going down one by one. first #6 and couple of days after #3, so I am going to replace all rear injectors, just in case #5 #1 goes bad too. I never done it but this site is big help. (I did replace #6)

You take 2 screws off also unplug the injector, then clap it with pliers -make sure your pliers have groves(teeth) on the tip-. Then twist and pull upward.
note if you do not take the railing off then you better hope that the O-rings (round seals) don’t come out of the injectors and fault inside.

Apply oil with your fingers and clean the inside with a tower to get any possible dust -oxidation- particles off the surface and then add more oil to lubricate, also add oil to the new injectors to help you place them in.

Then gently clamp them with the pliers and put them in as they where before (note do one at the time) you now can figure the rest from here. Put everything back on.

It is recommended to get new O-rings just for the fact that new robber will seal better.
If you do not have a good seal then many things can happen.

• gas leak and fire
• gas leak and bad combustion
• gas leak and pour gas pressure

 

just put a bottle of sea foam in your gas tank...why waste money fixing something that isn't broke...

 

Is there a certain brand of fuel injector you guys prefer? I have to replace #3 on my 98 Max. and may as well do the other two. went to Auto parts store and got new BWD for $84

So Sorry to bring up an old tread,but since I'm new and couldn't start a new tread this is whwhat I did. 1 3 5 are the hardest to get to that's why.

I don't recommend remanufactured injectors, cheap ones can cause a lot of problems and reduce fuel economy. Always go with a good quality brand in this case like Beck / Arnley or Bosch. I bought a set of Beck / Arnley injectors for my car which were manufactured in Japan.

I also recommend that you replace all the injectors as a set, not just individual ones.

 

Honestly sort of a waste of money if your aren't experiencing injector related problems, but if you are dead set on replacing them I'd either buy a set of used ones here on the .org, or buy a set from deatschwerks. They don't list stock size injectors on their site, but they do have them (or did last time I checked).

I've actually got a set of 6 flowed and tested still sealed in the original packaging if you are interested for like $200.

 

my 95 beater ran to 250k on stock injectors until the tranny gave out. engine still runs strong...

 

honestly i wd go to the yard and pull like 12 of them for like 50 bucks. U can go new too.

 

no, if taken care of, the stock injectors can last lift of the car. So why replace them when car is running well? make sure to use good injector cleaners yearly and it should be fine.
