Engine misfire - '98 Maxima

My '98 Maxima started missing really bad the other night and threw a check engine light. When I put the code reader on it, it said number 5 was misfiring. I suspected a bad coil, so I replaced what I thought was the number 5 coil. Rear bank, farthest to the right. The misfire is still there.

Any ideas?

The code is P0305 and the misfire is intermittent.

Misfire isn't necessarily the coil (though it most likely is). Could be plug, injector, or wiring for injector or coil.

You were right for cylinder 5, it's firewall side, far left (next to the TB). Did you get a new coil or used?

I changed the plugs tonight and it appears all is well. Probably should have started there...

Yeah i did the EXACT same thing. Ihad a missfire in cylinder 5, naturally i swap coils wihtout checking my plugs. Swapped coils and its still there, checked the plugs and they were bad.

Its just a general missfire code, so as pmohr said it could be plug, coil, injector, or even something internal
