OEM GXE Fog Light Wiring (who the heck has 56K these days?)
So I'm going to be wiring in an OEM GXE fog light kit here as soon as I figure a few things out. And I have already verified that no pre-wiring for the lights exist. The following pics will help illustrate my questions:
Here's the lamp (obviously there's 2 of them):

The lamps plug into these (2) connectors on the wiring harness:

Now here's pics of the rest of the wiring harness:
There's a fuse / ground:

Then there's a blue relay I'm missing from the fuse box in the engine bay:

So I guess there's 2 relays involved in this setup (both pictured)...BTW, if you have an extra blue relay, I need it!

Oh, and there's also this, which I'm assuming gets connected to the positive battery terminal for power:

So if you can tell me where to connect those wires to or have any other knowledge or insight, let's here it!
To recap, my guess is to tap the purple one into the wiring harness and to connect the 3 with connectors to the dash switch, even though the dash switch has 6 prongs.
And I'm not 100% sure if I need the blue relay since the kit comes with a black one...

okay, you say the car has no wiring for it. did the fog switch come off your car, or did you get it seperate?.
second, the fuse with the "ground," usually, (from what ive seen) the positive is fused, but could be wrong.
is this supposed to be half Q and A, half write up?
edit: can you post a picture of the wiring from the relay? or at least colors for the terminals?

id still like to see the relay wiring, accompanied by the relay as it would be installed.
then i think i can write it out.
my concern is the green wire going to the switch. if i can figger it out, i think i got it.
edit:also the color of the terminal in the last picture.

based on what i can tell, the green to the switch doesn't do anything, as shown:/. it could be used to light the switch, but i dont know...
im gonna throw this on here, see if its right.
as a suggestion, "wire" it up using a good battery first to check my connections.
-------------------
1.) run wiring to appropriate locations, with
. a.) the switch wiring to the switch location,
. b.) the light wiring to the appropriate lamp locations,
. c.) the battery terminal to the battery (do not connect, yet),
. d.) the ground terminal to an appropriate grounding location.
2.) install the fog switch into dash. the stock location on my '91 se is the spot closest to the door.
3.) connect the switch with the following wires.(ignore colors from pic...)

. a.) green to 6
. b.) yellow to pin 2
. c.) purple to pin 1
4.) install the relay into the harness and secure into a suitable location.
5.) connect the single purple to a location such as the main radio power for power when on (acc) or (run), or to the running lamp wiring, so the lights come on with the running lights.
6.) install lamps into proper locations, and connect them.
7.) connect the battery cable and test.
-------------------
please post results.

yeah...
btw, the reason i asked if the switch came with your car, is because i was wondering if there was a spot for it
I just realized that my step 2 is incorrect. the switch goes on the left side of the steering column, closest to the column.
when i wrote that, i called from memory, and later realized my mistake and meant to fix it, but forgot...

Somewhat related question: Where did you get this GXE fog light setup?
The reason I ask is because I also have a GXE w/o fogs and have been looking to install some. Unfortunately the only ones I have found were on eBay and when the guy sent them to me they were all bent and rusted out. Do the ones you have come with the mounting brackets for the lights also? I'm not sure if I have the wiring harness in my car or not. I will check.
Keep us updated. Thanks.

sorry about your purchase. are the lights salvageable, by sanding and repainting?
one option is to buy the components separately.
split loom wire holder(?), 16g wire(alot, with different colors), automotive relay with socket, oem fog switch, terminals/connectors, and shrink tubing. prolly about $50...

The lights were a rare dealer-installed option manufactured by Nissan. I hadn't ever come across a set until I bought them from another member who had had them sitting around still in the box for several years. I'll post the part # if you'd like.

Not yet, the car is currently sitting on jackstands while I rebuild (and clean and paint) the brake calipers. Next up is the wiring, then the transmission. I will let you know as soon as I try it out, but it may happen next week, it may happen next month.
The two main contributing factors to my procrastination are that I need to have a resume, etc. ready to give to several companies in about 2 weeks (haven't started yet) and that it's below zero with the wind chill outside and my garage heater is much more effective when it's a bit warmer. No worries tho...it will get done soon!

may have been the switch, or terminals to the lamps. i understand the question, and why, but its in the past, and you do not have to worry about it unless you get another one that has the same problem.
hope you find one soon. gl with the hunt

I was thinking that it could have been the switch, but I was a naive lad then and did not want to upset the dashboard panel getting to it. I gave up on the matter when it was sold by my dad against my will.
Thanks for the support! I was close and then found that he sold it already...just a matter of time.

Even though this discussion has given me a reasonably good idea of how to install these things, I still want a copy of the official install instructions...I KNOW they're out there! I can't for the life of me find them tho...
Ricky- You work at a Nissan dealer, correct? If so, any chance you could check into this?
My other idea is someone else could order a set and post up the instructions. They really are nice lights and are totally worth buying. Heck, I'm almost to the point of ordering a set from the dealer just for the instructions and then reselling them. Here's the part #'s if anyone is interested:
Fog light kit: 999F1-A000
Installation kit (brackets): 999F1-J9000
I'd be willing to bet the quality of these things is better than any of the aftermarket lights people have used in the past...

For the record, the GXE fog lights seem to be a common part. Here are some more numbers. I see them on amazon, ebay etc.
OEM # : 999F1-AA002
PartsLink # : NI2592113
note: this is just the light itself, you will need to have the oem mounts already on your GXE

the GXE fogs are also used on 00-01 Nissan Xterras, same light just different brackets between the 2 cars.. Also the OP refers them as being made by Nissan, However the GXE fogs say "BOSCH" across the front of the glass.

I doubt how much stuff is truly "made by nissan" other than major engine/frame parts. A lot of the sensors are hitachi and whatnot, injectors are bosch, etc etc.
Some of the reproductions may be plastic, which is probably not so bad. As I remember the OEM (bosch) glass I had were cracked in less than a year. If you do want glass order from courtesy with the OEM part number. I hope this helps anyone who is searching for GXE fogs and not finding anything.
With the gxe fogs you will get lense+reflector. They are not like se at all. Even the Bosch seemed cheapo compared to the heavy se assembly. They have a metal spring/tab holding the lense on as well as very different mounts. I just ordered some no name ones from amazon. I will share pics when they arrive. I like the smaller size of the gxe fogs.
